We had the good fortune of connecting with Vempre Terrell, Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vempre, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk-taking is one of the most important things we can do in life, and it has played an important role in my life. I can’t say enough how much of an integral aspect that risk-taking happens to be in life when we want to reach greater heights. It is so easy to compromise and settle for something that is far less than what we can do, as opposed to taking a risk to reach out of our comfort zones. Nevertheless, we must always remember that God did not place desires within us to do something in order for us to simply turn away from it or settle for the status quo. I’m the type of person who would much rather shrug my shoulders and say “Oh well” after taking a risk to reach a goal as opposed to wondering “What if?” for the rest of my life. Taking risks in my own life has certainly expanded who I am and widened my horizons. Opening myself up to risk-taking has made sure that I am not a person who is content with settling in life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Writing, motivational speaking, and acting are God-given talents that set me apart from others. It may be a day in my life when I am full of joy and happiness, and I will simply set aside the time to express myself through words. On the other hand, it may be a time when I am having a very bad day, and I will pick up a pen and a piece of paper to express how I am feeling at the time. My passion for writing has even led me to write a book entitled “The Eyes of Faith.” In my book, I let my words encourage readers to see the best of times in all situations, regardless how they may appear on the surface. When it comes to motivational speaking, I may be standing in front of 2 or 2,000 people, but I still do my best to empower my listeners with what I have to say. In the role of a motivational speaker, I strive to ensure that my listeners walk out spiritually with something they did not have when they walked in the room. As an actor, I do my best to embody the characters I play to the extent that viewers will love who they see. Expanding from this, I allow my love of risk-taking to move me even higher every day in the business world. Knowing that God gave me the gifts that he bestowed upon me is awesome! My life has had its set of challenges, but I have allowed my setbacks to become stepping stones for me to reach greater heights in life. Prayer, writing, and connecting with the Word of God are my ways of overcoming my challenges in life. Challenges are definitely not something that should stop you from taking risks. I want the world to know that I am someone who highly encourages risk-taking, because it is something that allows you to rise to new levels.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would certainly have to visit the AT&T Stadium. It is home to the Dallas Cowboys, and it is the place where so many other teams play, as well as where many other concerts and events are held. Also, I would take them all throughout both Downtown Dallas and Downtown Fort Worth to give them an idea of what each of the best-known cities in North Texas have to offer. Added to this, we would have to visit the State Fair of Texas. It is so much fun, and it is especially a high point during the Texas/OU Weekend!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother is certainly someone who deserves credit and recognition for helping me to become the man who I am. She has instilled within me the knowledge of the power of prayer and the importance of the Word of God. Throughout my life, she has encouraged me to kneel in prayer and trust that God will work out any situation in my life. One of the best things that my mother has encouraged me to do is express myself positively through writing. In the best of times and the worst of times, I know that my mother is someone who I am always able to call.
