We had the good fortune of connecting with Tim Champion and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tim, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After serving the Army for 7 years I felt confident I wanted to own my own construction company like my father did while growing up. Pick up where he left off before his illness made us close up shop. My father was my Mr. Miyagi he would have me go work with him and before I knew it. He had passed down all his skills. Skills I used in the service. After getting discharged I decided to use my benefits and go to college to get my business degree. Going to school was a good transition for me. I just have one semester to graduate. While attending Columbia College in GA. My speech teacher asked me to compete in a National Business Pitch contest for Entrepreneurs. I knew I wanted to focus my strategy on building a better future for homeowners. Providing homes that are equipped with smart devices and still be affordable, and sustainability by using recycled materials or repurpose materials.

What should our readers know about your business?
We started the family business Champion Construction and Technology LLC. in the summer of 2021. It was not easy at first, so I decided to reach out to SBA to get some insight on starting a business in a new area. They referred me to a mentorship program called the SCORE program where they assign a Mentor. The Mentor showed me the tools and resources needed to level up. Networking was one of the main drivers when starting my new business. So, I joined the GFWBA (Greater Fort Worth Builders Association) to help get my companies name out there. Learning who the different businesses that are working in the industry here is beneficial. They helped with referrals to partner with good businesses. The learning process is every day. Communicating with local companies to build partnerships to work together so we can all succeed is key to success. We should leave the world a better place than we found it. Our company wants to leave a good mark on people’s lives when building affordable, sustainable, smart homes. We have been trying to make our online presence more known through social media like Facebook and TikTok. Our company will continue to grow and each year.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, our family loves to cook at home so most days we will be planning delicious home cook meals. First fun day is fishing! We love to fish wake up extra early. Make some breakfast tacos and coffee. We usually arrive as the sun comes up at Arlington Lake to fish the day away, we will repeat this again before he leaves. The next day go to our buddy’s house with the family to go swimming and have a seafood boil. Next morning take him to the meat market to get a couple pounds of barbacoa and carnitas tacos with some fresh corn tortillas and salsa with pico de gallo. Then go walk it off and shop the Outlets & Mexican Mall gotta buy some new cowboy boots. Later on go meet up with mutual friends to go have some drinks and burgers at the local pub. I like Legends bar & grill and to watch a game, eat and drink. Following day take him to the walk the stockyards to watch rodeo and to eat some good food and drinks at Babes end the night there. On next day we must go watch a game at the stadium whoever is playing is who we are seeing. The following day take the family with us to the Dinosaur Valley to hike and look for Dino prints. The last few days of the trip we can go downtown to see the water garden and tour sites downtown probably end up at Cheesecake Factory. It’s our favorite place to eat to end the day there. We pack up outdoor toys to to head to Panther Island where they have concerts playing and we can enjoy floating the river and having some food & drinks. Day before he leaves we go fishing half a day and later on go for dinner with the family at Texas Roadhouse it’s everyone’s favorite. The finale night would be BBQ night at my house with delicious food, drinks and lots of laughter.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout GFWBA (Greater Fort Worth Builders Association) for all the support and insight they have provided me throughout this building process. They voted me to become a member of the board of Directors. Where we collectively make decisions concerning the organization. I am honored to be apart of that. I continue to introduce local businesses to the GFWBA family. Carol Leonard welcomed us with open arms she is also a board member and our mentor. Since the beginning of our membership in the GFWBA. She continues to be so supportive with the growth of our company.
