We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffaney Carr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffaney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Urban Taste after seeing their was a need for real food to be produced in real kitchens. I wanted to bring back the art of actual cooking from scratch and supporting other purveyors in our industry. I also saw a extreme lack of diversity in kitchens that lacked flavor profiles and community.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
So Urban Taste is a American modern food catering company. We specialize in corporate, weddings and special events and our food is all handcrafted. We take food that is simple and recreate it and present it in a special way. We are all about great flavor, exceptional service and making memories for our clients. I am most proud of the business because through it all we have gain some phenomenal clients and had some wonderful people work for us. We have even appeared on Bravo TV twice. We got to the place we are today by hard work, and never compromising on who we are. We don’t compromise on our ingredients our process or how our team operates on events. We also know that things go wrong, so we have that in place when we do so we believe in true accountability. Lessons I have learned along the way, create a community where people want to come work for you, your clients are family treat them that way, you don’t know everything so make sure you have people around you that can guide you. I want the world to know that we love what we do and it shows, we love our clients and we love our team and our food is really good!!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was coming to visit we would go to the state fair of Texas if it was open. We would go to visit the JFK museum and Perot. We would go watch a Cowboys Game and go have brunch at Hattie’s. We also would eat lunch at Hillstone in Park Cities and go the the movies at Alamo Draft house!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So there are a lot of people who share credit in supporting me in this journey and helping me to connect with the success I have had in this industry.First Jesus Christ, he placed in me this true desire for food and put around me people who would pushed me towards my potential. My grandmother and mom are two that stand out the most. My grandmother showed me about connecting with food and family and how real connections can come from sharing a meal. My mother showed me hard work and perseverance with her raising me as a single parent. My old boss at Sam Houston Catering Division for taking me under their wing and showing me all about catering. I have had several mentors throughout my journey but a special friend of mine (Shanita of Castle Catering) really took me under her wing. She has been a bright light when there are not many caterers who look and resemble me. My team is also so important as they have stuck with me and shown up and given their very best every day. My clients who support us, refer our team and keep coming back! Countless friends, family and loved ones.
