Meet Tete Zarzar | Painting Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tete Zarzar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tete, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I discovered painting after graduating from civil engineering. I was living in Saltillo, when I decided to join a 2-week workshop while I was looking for a job. At that moment I just knew I was passionate about painting and since then I could not stop. With that necessity of learn, I went from one workshop to another and each time they were longer and farther away from home.
I had to leave everything I believed in, I had found a job, but I took the risk and decided not to take it and instead, chase something that makes my heart beat. Since that day I have not stopped painting. Art gives me the opportunity to believe and trust in myself, to be constant and trust my instinct.
Inspiration sometimes is difficult so I have to look for it in everything around me, what I see, what I hear and feel, the energy of people, I get inspired by a good talk and a deep silence, dreams and memories, longings and desires all feed my creative self that seeks to come out in the form of brushstrokes.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an artist I try to communicate through my work, to transmit feelings and emotions that can define certain time and space. What distinguishes my work is precisely that feeling since, through different gestures and signs, I seek to represent sensations and thoughts that manifest the strength of femininity, whether in the form of a claim, protest or evidencing the inadvertent importance of everyday life.
I live painting as a method of introspection and self-knowledge and I use figuration as a motive to explore colors and shapes. I am quite methodical about the process, although most of the time it changes according to the subject and the emotion that feels it.
I got here with the help and support of many people who appreciate my work and who have shared their knowledge with me, others who have joined along the way and together we are growing with effort, perseverance and courage. Of course, it has not been easy but giving up when you love something like I love art and especially painting is not an option so as we say here in Mexico, we bet on what the heart dictates. I have learned to believe to be consistent and trust my instincts.
I am following my own path and I enjoy experimenting but I think it is also important to transmit and share with those who are starting as they did with me time ago, that is why my project and my workshop is expanding to prepare a space for workshops and art residence to be able to create an art circle and form a bridge between artists and my city.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My city Torreón, is north Mexico, it is younger that 100 years old, so we can say than it is modern, it grew very fast but it was a fundamental part in the history of Mexico since due to its location it communicates Central Mexico with North America, that is why great battles were lived here during revolution and it has a great historical and cultural legacy, it is a city made up of migrants so we have many cultures around us.
I would invite people to the historical part of the city, where we would find the oldest buildings now converted mostly into art spaces, the contrast with the modern life of the city where we have Art Galleries and wonderful spaces to have a coffee at Paseo Morelos, a walking avenue with beautiful places and nightlife, we could see a postcard of the city from the mountain of Cristo de las Noas and go down the cableway
Also around the city we have many beautiful places to visit, such as the Bilbao dunes that worthily represent the desert of Mexico, we could visit the vineyards in Parras, Coahuila and enjoy the wines that are produced in the region, we have a protected area called Cuatrocienegas where there are endemic species in its water reservoirs and beaches, we would visit the desert museum at Saltillo with its skeletal remains of dinosaurs and spend a few nights in the Sierra de Arteaga where the climate turns cold, all this accompanied by a great local culinary sensations, it would be an extraordinary experience
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband is the man who has motivated me the most and has bet on my career. He believes in my work like no one else and has made me to believe in myself. He is one of the people I most admire and inspire me, without him I would not be here today, together as a family we have achieved a balance in time so I can work in my art.
My children are my engine and daily inspiration they help me feel, believe, live and be the woman that I am in order to create my reality.
To my great support team made up of family, friends, artists, gallery owners and collectors who have join me on this path by my side.
