We had the good fortune of connecting with Tempest Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tempest, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was kind of a natural progression. It started with me convincing my dad to buy me a stand mixer. Eventually I felt led to start selling desserts and it has grown since then.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
It’s called Temp’s Sweet Eats which is a part on my name, Tempest. I started business at the end of 2018 after I convinced my dad to buy me a stand mixer. I started practicing with different recipes and constantly pursuing getting better at baking and decorating. I pride myself on not only making sure the desserts look good but also taste good and I think that’s what sets me apart from others. I really put my heart into baking. Honestly I think I’ve got to where I am today with all the support I recieve but mainly by the Grace of God. God has definitely blessed me and my business and I’m so grateful. I’ve learned to keep pushing, not everything will go perfect and there will be bad days but I have to keep it moving and don’t let it get to me. I want the world to know my desserts are good and I’m passionate about baking.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m such a homebody, so that’s hard to answer haha. I love sitting at White Rock Lake! Its so serene, they also have kayaking there so that’s fun also. If it’s basketball season, we would definitely hitting up a Mavericks game. Dallas Museum of Art and Klyde Warren Park would make a fun Saturday. Also because I’m a nerd I enjoy the Perot Museum as well!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my family! My parents and sisters have been super supportive! They’ve been customers and taste testers. They’ve been super encouraging. And my Nana who I think I get my baking bug from! But for the most part, all my family and close friends have been supportive and I couldn’t ask for a better support system.
