We had the good fortune of connecting with Liza Slaughter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liza, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My heart does not know any other way then to follow my dreams. We only have one life, and I choose to do it doing my ultimate passion. My hearts desire and goal is to be a part of telling important stories. Stories and characters that help someone get through the most difficult time in their life, to make you laugh, to make you feel seen, heard, or see the world differently than you did before. My goal is to be a light, to bring love, passion, and feel purpose. I am a full believer in going for your dreams, passions, and goals. So, if you are in a job you hate, change it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud of my tenacity, consistency, and never losing my heart and true self. I am proud of the moments I have stood up for myself on set, stood up for women, and not given in to pressures. I am proud of the strong women I have played on screen and those stories that I have been apart of.

I am extremely proud of my work for Netflix in ‘Full Out 2: You Got This!’, the beautiful WWII film ‘Walking Point’, and I am excited for the upcoming release of the stunning 1800s Western, ‘Dawn at Dominion.’

Lessons I have learned as an actress:
Be yourself, shine, and the opportunities will attract you rather than striving to fit what you think others want you to be. Perfection is never truly wanted and overrated. Over thinking and comparison is the thief of joy and success. Trust your gut always if you feel unsafe leave. No matter what age or time in your career you have a voice and a large beautiful purpose. Most importantly, love and family is more important in your journey, life, and career and if you are abundant in those areas you are truly winning.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I travel a lot for my Job, so when I do get to be back in Dallas I love to visit my favorite sports. The Dallas farmers market on Saturdays are the best where I love shopping for vintage T’s and grabbing sea food or mediterranean food. I love to take a walk to highland park village and grab a coffee and lunch at Saddle’s. Gilmore Girls taught me a deep love for coffee, so to all my coffee fans here is the best coffee in Dallas- Merrit Coffee, La La Land, Wild detective, and during Christmas you have to hit up Fiction coffee for the cutest Christmas mugs and aesthetics.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All my love to my parents who cheered me on and supported me in my career from the very beginning. I am so honored to have parents who pushed me to go for my dreams. To my brother and sister, thank you for always being a loving sounding board and being my best friends. To my Manager Sherry, you are my long lost soul sister and I am so thankful to be on your team! Lastly, thank you you to my husband Samuel who is my biggest fan, believes in me even when I don’t, and loves me through all the ups and downs of my crazy career.
