We had the good fortune of connecting with Stefani Stefani and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stefani, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I got started because of my frustration with healthcare and how corporations treated staff. We were having to do more and more due to insurance demanding more paperwork, and with reimbursements going down, corporations were demanding more as well.

I just got frustrated and burned out. I was told that starting a cashed based, out of network physical therapy office would not work. I was told by my last job that no one would pay for it. And ultimately drove me to prove them wrong. And I did. We have grown 30% year after year even in a pandemic.

It also takes you constantly learning and growing and not fearing of failing that has helped me grow my business and brand. I look at failing as an opportunity to learn. If you do not try, you will never know what works and does not work. You also have to be willing to learn from others who have done it before you and continue to go to events to learn more on marketing, figuring out your message, how to build a team, who to look for when hiring for certain positions, and I could go on and on.. I had to learn this and fail at this to keep on helping me craft my skills in so many different areas of the business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started out as a physical therapist 20 years ago. I knew I wanted to start my own practice but did not know how that would happen. 2 years out of school I started a business with 4 other people. I learned a lot, but having partners was a nightmare. I do not know many partners in businesses that last long term.

So I pulled out and went with a franchise type of model. It was great, because they provided structure and I could just build it. Which I did. We went from me as a PT to 3 other PT working with me. I was with that franchise for about 11 years until they started to make my life unmanageable. As reimbursements went down, they started taking things away. For example, I had 2 office managers in 10 years. I no longer could have an office manager so they could cut cost. So they made me hire a 13$ per hour person to manage the front. they also outsourced the billing. So I went from having a manager who could do all that, to no managing a front office person, managing a billing person, managing PT staff, marketing my business and somehow treat a full caseload..

They were wondering why is this office not running smoothly anymore.. umm, I wonder why.. I decided to cut my hours back because I could not handle everything they wanted me to do and they said we will have to take part of your bonus away. They literally told me that I can do more work than most people, but…..

Long story short, I left a company that did not value what I could bring. A company that was still in the blockbuster way of thinking and would not take any of my ideas in thinking outside the box.

Was it easy.. No. I had to truly step out on my own. I started with no loans. Just seeing patients in people’s houses. One of the PT’s that worked with me following me to 3 different offices started with me as well.

I decided I needed to open up an office and I wanted to offer more than physical therapy. I wanted to offer people hope that they could stay active and pain free without surgery, medications or injections even as they aged. I wanted to offer fitness to the 50+ community as there really was not a place for them.

So I opened up an office 3 years ago and have not looked back. We grow year after year and will run out of space next year. We will be looking to set up a 2nd office by the end of next year.

What sets us apart? We get to spend time with our clients to hear their stories and provide education on what is going on and how we can help. Most of our clients have lost hope that it is possible to live pain free and get back to doing the things they love and we are still able to help them.

My lesson are to truly understand who you help and what are their fears and frustrations. How to talk to them and market to them so you bring in the exact client that you help.. When you do this, your passion for living and helping others will naturally come out. And you will be able to help so many more people by having them find you!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite place in Dallas is White Rock Lake.. I love walking, biking or running around the lake because it is so beautiful and I am amazed that this is in the heart of Dallas. You can see the Dallas sky line from the lake. I also think going to the Arboretum which is also on the lake is great place to check out.

You can not get out of texas without eating mexican food and having a margarita. So I would stop off at some of my favorite spots such as Tullum or Mi Cocina.

There is also a great museum downtown called the Perot Museum that would be fun to go to and close to that museum is another park that was build over a highway. It is a beautiful spot in downtown Dallas.

There are a lot of arts you can do, such as the symphony, going to a musical or other fun arts or plays in the area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give credit to several people for my success. First my parents. They have supported me in everything I do. When I start feeling that I can not do something, they tell me yes you can.. They are the biggest supporters of everything I do.

I also have to thank my Husband, Mike Crowley. As he has supported me throughout my journey. There have been struggles and fears with starting a business, but he has helped me in any way he can especially at the beginning.

I also would not be where I am today without my Business coach, Paul Gough. He has helped me in so many different areas of my business. Just having someone who has done it before you and help guiding your to get to where you want to be… I am shocked at how quickly we have grown in the lasts 3-4 years since starting with him. My goals and vision for my company are so much bigger than I ever thought was possible.
