We had the good fortune of connecting with Son Chau and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Son, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Having a routine and setting boundaries! It definitely allowed me to meet deadlines and expectations while still be able to take care of myself without stretching myself too thin.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a guitar player and producer/sound engineer. I’m currently the lead player and producer for JTE an original band from the Grand Prairie/Arlington area. We’ve been steadily releasing music for the past 3 years but had recently released our first ever full length album titled “Heart Tapes” and was able to have one of our song played on 91.7! Aside from that, one of our singles is really popular in Asia and we’re planning on doing a tour this coming Spring Break! So these are all things that we’re very excited about. I’m also producing and recording for a few local artist in the DFW area and giving private music lessons in the Grand Prairie!

It was not entirely easy getting to where I am currently. One of the main challenges for me is the fact that I moved here to the US from Vietnam during high school, the most awkward time to uproot a kid and plant him in a new country in my opinion. Because of that I never had any head start in my career in terms of connections and just overall experiences and trainings in music. It’s still an on going process overcoming the challenges since I’m starting from the ground up, but through my band I’m able to catch up on some of those things that I missed out upon moving here later in life.

It’s definitely a learning process that’ll never stop as long as I continue to pursue my career, and the most important lesson that I’ve learned so far is setting boundaries for others and yourself to follow.

I would like the world to know that my band JTE @realJTEband is really cool and they should listen to our latest album “Heart Tapes” on Spotify, Apple Music and Youtube! and follow me on Instagram @killmonomusic for guitar and production contents!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d definitely hit Bishop Art District in the afternoon to enjoy some local music and go restaurant hopping all along the strip!

I’d take them to the Stockyard in FW so they can enjoy the Wild West type of vibe there.

And we’d spend a lot of time at botanical gardens and hiking trails since I’m a very outdoorsy kind of person.

And to top it off we’d go to Cidercade every night!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My girlfriend and family for always supporting me and keeping me grounded My band mates and friends for always providing me with opportunities and pushing me to be a better musician and individual
Mateus Asato for inspiring me to work harder as a guitar player
