We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelley Loving and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelley, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I would say 2 things. The first one is passion. Everyone has a story or their “why” behind what they do. Mine is straight from the heart. Because of my experience with my husband’s life-threatening scare of a massive heart attack, I stay passionate about trying to help others prevent a major health catastrophe. I am doing something that I haven’t seen anyone else do. My approach is much different than most when it comes to food education. I want to keep it super simple and fun. Healthy eating doesn’t have to be full of rules, limitations, and bland flavor. Small changes are where the success lies. Those small changes in the foods we eat and the ingredients we use will set us up for a healthier life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I don’t like to label myself as a health coach or a nutritionist. I have such a different approach when it comes to food and the relationship that comes with it. What sets me apart is showing people that it’s all about balance and small steps. It’s ok to splurge for specials occasions or if you are having a stressful day. It’s ok to eat pizza at the party. I try to encourage people to “plan your weak moments” meaning if you know you are going to have a weekend full of events that will make it hard to eat healthy food, be sure to eat healthy throughout the week and plan for that weekend of indulging. The small steps mean you do not have to clean out your pantry, fill it with a bunch of food you aren’t going to eat or go vegan. It means to take one small step at a time. Give yourself grace. Every day is a new opportunity to eat a little healthier. I am here today because of lots of challenges. I was a teen mom and I was also a single mom. Those titles come with a lot of sacrifices and endless work. I wasn’t able to call in sick when I got tired of parenting. I couldn’t quit. And I apply those habits to my work. I have a purpose and it’s crystal clear to me now. My mission is to help as many people as I can to improve their health by making small changes in the food they eat every day. I have learned so much in the past 2 years. When you listen to your clients, truly listen, they will tell you what they want. Every day I show up and try my best to offer small pieces of encouragement around healthy eating. That’s all. I don’t want someone to have a health scare like we did when so many of them are preventable.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think my #1 shoutout would be to my husband. First because of his endless support for me to pursue this dream of a career, but second because of the life-threatening health scare he endured. I have no doubt that his heart attack blessed us in so many ways. It really made us shift our thinking on life and really appreciate the small victories. It also forced us to clean up our diet, and getting us both healthy put me on this path to help others do the same. I would also love to give huge props to the two nutrition schools I attended that allowed me to share so much wisdom with all those that follow me. The Academy of Culinary Nutrition taught me the “why” behind the foods and ingredients we choose. They taught me the importance of every single ingredient you use & how to use them. The Institute for Integrative Nutrition taught me so much about eating with intention & helping me to deliver all this information to my clients. These schools changed me & I’m so grateful for that experience, knowledge, and passion.
