We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelby, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
As a new parent , the most important thing I have done to ensure I have a positive impact on my little one is to show him how to be resilient, have grit, and remain present in every moment. My son has just turned 1 and it is a very delicate balance in between being present as a parent and being focused as a career woman. Your children feel and absorb everything they see you do. I made it a point that my son would always know and feel my presence while seeing me be active creatively. He’s little but I watch him try to do the things I do and his intention on learning. He’s so authoritative and strong. I want to impact his life by showing him how to channel that energy into amazing things.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career has very much so transformed. In the corporate space. I started off primarily in the advertising and public relations. From there I ended up designing campaigns for companies and talent to help them gain meaningful partnerships. None of it was easy. With everything comes a positive or negative consequence. How you respond to it determines your success. I overcame many obstacles by honestly praying and asking God for discernment in everything I do and being strong enough to leave anything at the time I need to. That is a major lesson I have had to learn in order to protect my peace but also to gain wisdom. I’ve never been a person who was stagnant, pessimistic or idle. I have to be doing something positive that aligns with God’s purpose for me. If not, you will pay for not listening to your gut. What I would like the world to know about my story is that it is ever changing and always growing. Our brand is one that is flexible just like our talent. We adapt. We change. We grow.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a good friend of mine was in town we are hitting up the following: Haywire in Plano for a good lunch and drinks. Paradiso for drinks again SER for dinner Next day probably hit up a spa and luxury Airbnb somewhere in Highland Park Later we’d check out Deep Ellum for the music and art and then head to Frisco into the Star to chill.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes! I couldn’t do anything without the amazing creatives who work with me to change the way we view culture. -Iesha Goree -Sarah Badran -Tazia Alexa -Victoria Goodlow -Bryanna Sims
