Meet Selina Mahon | Owner/Operator of The Virtuous Collection Inc. LLC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Selina Mahon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Selina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business was as a mobile stylist and at the height of COVID my clientele picked up because I was making house calls. I made sure I was taking the necessary and recommended precautions because I was not in a salon space and had to enter residences. So when restrictions were lax and salons were allowed to reopen I was in a position where I could now operate out of a salon space or suite, which was something I always wanted to go back to. I had the opportunity to share a suite with another stylist who was only servicing her clientele on Thursdays so the rest of the week was reserved for my clients. She retired at the end of last year which allowed me to take full ownership of the space and The Virtuous Collection Inc., LLC was birthed. The Virtuous Collection is centered around the scripture reference of the Virtuous Woman in Proverbs 31. I want every woman that comes in contact with my business to know “Its not just about the service I’m providing but it’s about ministry and building a relationship and creating an experience that they will always remember.” I also have male clientele in which I like to keep them empowered and inspired as well. My prayer has always been Lord, whomever comes and sits in my chair let them be sent by YOU. The Virtuous Collection is bigger than ME and all about God.

What should our readers know about your business?
What I want the readers to know about my business is that my prayer has always been “Lord whomever sits in my chair let them be sent by You.” The Virtuous Collection is based around the scripture of the Proverbs 31 Woman, and my hope is that once in my space, I impart or leave something with you. When you enter my salon space the first thing you see is an “I AM” Graffiti Affirmation Wall which I created to allow my clients along with myself to always feel reaffirmed. I will say I am just tapping the surface as to all that I have planned for The Virtuous Collection Inc. and its future. It’s more than just doing hair for me being a stylist serves as an umbrella for so many other things that will be game-changing for the hair industry. This journey hasn’t been the easiest. It has definitely been challenging navigating through divorce while building and growing my business but, I have found many rewards. The lessons I am learning are to take things one day at a time and pace myself and to trust God every step of the way, even when the path is not very clear, because life is a journey not a destination. What I would like the world to know about me and my brand is that I’m turning pain into Purpose with the intent of helping all of my clients understand that there is healing in self-care. Again, it’s more than hair for me, it is ministry as well. We all have wisdom that should be shared with others. At this point my story is only beginning to be told, and the Lord knows I have so much to share. It’s coming!!!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Luckily for me my Best Friend lives here and her and I have yet to really get out and enjoy doing things here in Dallas. I will say we have gone to places like Lava Cantina for the Snoopadelic concert, Trap Karaoke, Deep Ellum, The Shops at Legacy, AfroSocaLove just to name a few. We have a list of places to go to now and are looking forward to exploring Dallas and surrounding areas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My 1st and Foremost Shoutout goes to my Lord Savior Jesus Christ cause without him I would be nothing. Through all of life’s challenges, tests, ups and downs he has been the constant I can always depend on. Secondly, I want to Shoutout everyone that has played a part in my journey from less than to greater cause it’s coming. Yall have no idea how much you mean to me and I’m forever GRATEFUL!!!
