We had the good fortune of connecting with Sammi Bivens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sammi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Creating my own opportunity. I originally began my entrepreneurship journey in 2011 due to not being able to get a job in my field after graduating from college. Since there were no opportunities, I figured my business would show companies that I had the skills it took to be a marketer. My first business was Tainted Rose and I sold women’s jewelry and accessories. In 2019, I transitioned into helping other women start their businesses. I had been considering it for a while, but then one person, in particular, would not stop asking me to help her, so I decided to give it a shot and I enjoyed it so much, I decided to put my full focus on helping other’s create their own opportunities.

What should our readers know about your business?
Digital Marketing Maven and Associates prepares small businesses with high-quality branding and marketing that can increase their revenue, spread their name, and spotlight the business they have proudly created. Plus, with our affordable pricing models, our small business clients get the competitive marketing plans they need to level the playing field with bigger companies—without paying the big company price.

What sets me apart is that I’ve been in my client’s shoes. As a 10+ year entrepreneur, I have been where they are so I am able to guide them through their journey while giving them practical guidance from my own journey. I have also worked in corporate America as a Marketing Manager, so I also combine that experience to create with the best strategy for each client.

I am most excited about the future. I am looking forward to expanding my services, adding to my team, and eventually opening my own business resource facility.

I am most proud of myself for having the courage to pursue this dream! It has not been easy or cheap lol I’ve invested my time, money, and energy into DMM to grow it into a full-service agency that helps other people bring their dreams to reality! I am also proud that my small business has been able to also create opportunities for other creatives who had been seeking work as well.

It has not been easy to get to where I am today. I am building something that no one I know personally has done. I have worked really hard to build this thing from the ground up with little outside resources, until the UPS Store contest. I’ve gotten to where I am today, by studying my craft, investing into my business, remaining consistent and diligent, while continuously pivoting when I see an opportunity for the business to grow. Through God’s grace and favor, that is the easiest way to explain how my business has grown so much in a somewhat small time frame. We have served clients all over the US and gotten national attention/recognition from major publications and fortune 500 companies.

I’ve learned many lessons along the way, but the biggest lesson I’ve learned is to always keep the main thing, the main thing. There will be many challenges or things that don’t exactly work out but as an entrepreneur, you must be flexible and willing to pivot. You cannot allow small failures or seemingly impossible circumstances to distract you from your main thing (goal). It sounds cliche but “failure” really is a part of the process. It’s how you learn and grow. My past failures are what help me better serve my clients and be a great leader for my team.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shout-out goes to Nicole Overton. She is my mentor and an advisor in my business. Since the day we met she has uplifted me and help to guide me spiritually, professionally, and personally. She is an amazing person who selflessly takes time out of her schedule to be there for me and others in many ways.
