Meet Samara Chalott Barron and Christian Rios Portilla | Co-owners

We had the good fortune of connecting with Samara Chalott Barron and Christian Rios Portilla and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samara and Christian, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Most certainly, it hasn’t been an easy road. We’ve had some set backs and made mistakes along the way, but we are very grateful to our clients for being understanding when things don’t go as planned. We know that this is part of the journey and we are growing through it all.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many places to pick from! We would definitely start in Oak Cliff at all our favorite small businesses. We’d recommend starting out in the Bishop Arts area at Hola Café and The Salty Donut for lattes and sweet treats, and then walk around to our favorite chocolate shop–CocoAndre Chocolatier for more sweet treats and souvenirs. For brunch, we would recommend going to Cactus Mexican Cuisine for some of the best chilaquiles we’ve ever had. These chilaquiles take us back to our childhood and remind us of our grandmother’s cooking. To walk off their meal, we’d recommend they take a drive to Klyde Warren Park, walk the Arts District in downtown, and snap some fun pictures! Later, we’d recommend them to make a trip to Four Corners Brewery and stay for their Loteria nights to win some cool prizes. To end the night, we’d recommend going to the Ronald Kirk Pedestrian Bridge for some of the best Dallas skyline night views!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We have received so much support from family and friends, but our parents have been our biggest support system. Not only have they shown us tremendous support, but they have also been our biggest critiques. From helping us ensure that events go as smoothly as possible to providing constructive feedback on our recipes, our parents have truly stepped up. We would also like to recognize a close family friend who provided us with several tools and tips that gave us a jump start in the catering industry. Thanks to her mentorship, we were able to begin our journey as a small catering business. Lastly, we’d like to highlight our clients for trusting in us and for booking us sometimes before even trying our food. It always makes us happy to hear that we’ve exceeded their expectations!
