We had the good fortune of connecting with Saad Ayub and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Saad, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Bangladesh and spent a part of my life in Canada. I grew up in a home filled with warmth, love, and incredible homemade food. Meals were more than just food—they were moments of connection, tradition, and care. That deep appreciation for food and community stayed with me.

I went to college with the intention of getting a bachelor’s degree in general science. My original goal was to teach Math and Science at the high school level. Upon graduation, I realized that my passion lied elsewhere. I went back to college to study computer science and had to work very hard to keep my GPA high enough to graduate. I did not let the challenges in getting my degree keep me from growing an appreciation for technology. In 2013, At the final stretch of my computer science degree, I started building Android apps and publishing them to the Google Play Store. The very positive responses to those apps were what encouraged me to pursue the career of a mobile software engineer upon graduation. I eventually met my wife and moved to Texas in 2019 and continued by career in software engineering in the states.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career has been anything but traditional, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. With a background in computer science and a passion for business, I’ve always been driven by the idea of creating something meaningful—something that empowers people and makes a real difference. That’s what led me to build SurPlate, a mobile marketplace designed to help home bakers and cottage food entrepreneurs turn their passion into a thriving business.

What sets me apart is my ability to blend technology, business, and community impact. I didn’t create SurPlate just to build another app—I built it to solve a real problem. I saw so many talented home bakers struggling to get their products in front of the right customers, while at the same time, people were looking for fresh, homemade treats but didn’t have an easy way to find them. SurPlate bridges that gap, giving small food makers a platform where they can be seen, valued, and supported.

Getting here wasn’t easy. I had to work incredibly hard, often without the support or recognition that others might receive. There were times when I doubted myself and had to push through moments of uncertainty. But I’ve learned that the only way to truly succeed is to stay committed to your vision, even when others don’t see it yet. Challenges will come, but persistence, adaptability, and an unwavering belief in your mission are what carry you through.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success isn’t just about having a great idea—it’s about execution, resilience, and staying true to your purpose. I’ve also learned that no one succeeds alone. Community is everything. SurPlate isn’t just my story—it’s the story of every baker, every customer, and every small business owner who dares to dream bigger.

What I want the world to know about me and SurPlate is that this is more than just a business—it’s a platform built on heart, community, and empowerment. It’s about making sure that incredible homemade food doesn’t go unnoticed, that passionate bakers get the recognition they deserve, and that people can experience the joy of fresh, local treats made with care. My journey has been about more than just creating an app—it’s been about creating opportunities, uplifting others, and proving that when passion meets purpose, incredible things happen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

For a true Texas landmark experience, we would go and visit the Reunion tower and go straight to the observation deck. Afterward, we’d relax at Trinity Groves, a trendy dining area with stunning views of the Dallas skyline.

We could also spend the afternoon walking through Bishop Arts District, where we can explore unique shops, art galleries, and find a cozy corner to hang out. Dinner would be at Noodle Wave.

Day 7: Giving Back & Reflecting
For our last day, we’d spend some time volunteering at a local community center or charity organization, giving back to those in need. It’s the perfect way to reflect on the week and engage in something meaningful.

In the evening, we’d have our final dinner at Andalous Mediterranean Grill, a local restaurant with healthy and mixed grilled options. It’s a beautiful way to cap off a week filled with adventure, culture, and great food!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my three children. They’ve taught me about perseverance and never giving up when the going gets tough. SurPlate is more than just a business to me; it’s a way to help others help themselves, and I hope to set an example for my children that following your passion and doing good in the world is always worth it.
