We had the good fortune of connecting with Roohi Jummani and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roohi, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
The value that matters most to me is fostering inclusion and creating a true sense of belonging. In my work with MUHSEN, I’m committed to ensuring that every child and family, especially those with special needs, feels valued and welcomed. I believe that a strong community is built when every individual, regardless of their abilities, has access to meaningful experiences and the support they need. This belief drives me every day, motivating me to organize events that not only offer enrichment but also help others feel connected to a supportive community.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I joined MUHSEN as the Dallas Expansion Coordinator in July 2024, with the mission of fostering inclusion and providing support for individuals with special needs throughout the Dallas area. In this role, I collaborate closely with faith based organizations to coordinate and enhance community events, expand our volunteer network, and support both fundraising and growth efforts.
As the Dallas Expansion Coordinator, I am deeply committed to organizing accessible and sensory-friendly experiences for families with special needs. My goal is to create meaningful and welcoming events, from social gatherings to sensory sensitive outings. Recently, I organized an event at the Crayola Factory, where those with disabilities enjoyed a hands-on, quiet, and accessible environment.
Additionally, I collaborated with a local robotics camp to provide special needs students with a unique learning experience that included 1:1 mentorship. Together, we enabled students to build and program their own robots, fostering engagement and skill development. It’s incredibly fulfilling to connect with families and help create spaces where everyone feels supported and valued.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting Dallas, TX, I’d plan a few must-see stops for us. Our first stop would be the Islamic Association of Allen. When I moved to Texas three years ago, this was one of the first mosques I visited with my family. We were warmly welcomed and loved the family activities they had planned.
Next, we’d head over to Dona Maria Mexican Restaurant, a cozy taco shop in Plano known for its amazing tacos and spicy hot sauce! It’s the perfect place to enjoy authentic Mexican flavors.
Another restaurant we couldn’t miss is Noodle Wave. Their Thai food is absolutely delicious, and my favorite dish is the Thai red curry—so flavorful!
I’d also take her to see the Dallas Zoo, a fun spot with plenty of animals and beautiful outdoor spaces.
Our final stop would be Big Dash in Frisco. Their freshly made knafeh is delicious and reminds me of the flavors I enjoyed back in NY.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
