Meet Rocke Ramos | Open format DJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rocke Ramos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rocke, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Born in Durango Mex and raised in the great city of Dallas Texas in the Oak Cliff area to be exact, growing up in Oak Cliff was the norm back in the 90s it was an easy time mainly cause I was young with out a care in the world but it came a time where I had to see the grown up picture and start making moves on my own. Luckily I fell in love with djing and little by little I started to soak in the ins and outs of the business and be a man of my word.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So from the start of the 2000s djing came to my life, self taught on vinyl and 2 turntables the real way! What sets me apart from other dj is that I play the music you didn’t know you wanted to hear, I like to see people reaction to something they haven’t heard in a while but it’s a song they like. My favorite time to mix if during dinner hour or right after a band plays, the feeling I get when I drop that banger is one I can’t explain. My excitement comes on the way to all my gigs this is something I love doing but I do love being on the big screen or at a big event recently I was confirmed to be the official dj for the FAN EXPO here in Dallas that’s like the comicon in LA for Texas and that was super exiting, I’m proud of these accomplishments gigs I get never would I have thought to be a part of en event like that. Being in this dj business can be a little stressful from equipment failure to canceled gigs it can all be avoided just make sure to plan ahead I learned not to give everyone a hook up price or discount. Yes there has been gigs that didn’t go as planned but it just makes you be a little more ready for the next one it was not easy getting here specially when things started going digital. That was a bit hard from finding music all over again going from records/vinyl and cds to downloading music from online pools, that was a headache at first. Before we had to hunt for records at record stores now you can just sit down and everything in one sitting but just tending to the little things like your music now can take you a long way, practice and time can help. I want the people to know ROCKE and dance to his music, I know I can’t change the world but at least I can make them dance and forget for a bit and follow your dream and what you love.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First we’d head to the bishop arts district for breakfast or brunch, head north to Frisco for the indoor go karts, next is a stop in funky town for the cattle drive then hit the night life there. Head back to Dallas for the next day and start off at the Mariscos spots for some seafood then hit the traders village after that go check out the live bands playing in the oak cliff area restaurants, hit the night life in Dallas like uptown or deep ellum along with spot in Plano on legacy also contact all my dj friends and make a stop where ever they are for a set !

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly I would really like to shout out my big brother/cousin Alonzo lead singer of Los Vensedores del bravo he introduced me to HIP HOP from the music he would play at my aunts house to the movies he would make me watch with him. I have set some goals of my self from seeing his crowds to the size of stages he is on that makes me want to get there at that level which keeps me going. If it wasn’t for him djing would have not happened for me. Along with the other OG djs that I bumped into since I started I can’t forget about them Super Star Ralph, Sandman, dj IvanG, Dj Elements, QMR, Revo. Casper. DJB, and my main dude Mr Miguel el BIGtexican, this dude here is good peoples. Thank you all for the support and the knowledge you guys continue to share with me.. all respect and love to you guys !
