Meet Reginald Terrell

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Reginald Terrell again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Reginald, we are so thrilled to be connecting again and can’t wait to hear about all the amazing things you have been up to. Before we jump into all of that, some of our readers might have missed our prior interview, so can you take a moment to reintroduce yourself?
My name is Reginald Shawn Terrell Jr. Though, most people know me for my stage name, ReggieTbone (given I play the trombone). I’m a full time professional musician in the DFW area with numerous bands (Over 10 of them actually). My primary instrument is the trombone with over 17 years of playing that horn. I love to engage with the crowd with countless antics while I’m performing. Most people don’t share what they love as they’re performing, so it becomes a treat to those that see me move around with the horn on my head like a hat, interact with my fellow bandmates and even sing the tunes with the audience. What considers me different than others is my nerdy interests. I love super heroes, fighting games, anime, you name it. I like to bring that out through playing certain lines from various shows and games.
I first started into the scene with a friend of mine sharing the same jazz class at Tarrant County College back in 2017. He loved my craft, so he introduced me to the scene in Deep Ellum. The first place he took me to was the Balcony Club, then the Deep Ellum Art Company, and then the Freeman. Those were a few of the staples I was shown in the music scene, but I was immediately hooked with the amount of talent and incredible music being played. From there on, I started showing up to as many open mics and jams as I could until I was handpicked to perform in a band that played with the Legend Shaun Martin at the Trinity Church. Never would I expected that to be my first performance in the scene. A year later, I was reached out by the manager (at the time) of the Found Band. At that moment, I’ve been performing in the area for numerous years.
Alright, so our main goal today is to give our audience an update on what you have been up to since our last conversation. We’d love to hear how things are going and what you are most looking forward to or excited about these days.
As of 2025, I have vastly expanded my name across numerous cities via different bands and influence. One of those bands happen to be my own, Reggie T & The BoneHeadz; simply put, a group of nerds sharing their love of all of things geeky and nerdy via latin jazz, rock, along with covering some video game tunes. One of our band members was recently married and he gave us the opportunity to perform during his reception. It was an amazing time to say the least. Also, the BoneHeadz have performed at the Levitt Pavilion in celebration of Juneteenth along with collaborating with Big Wy’s Brass Band from Austin, TX. I’d say my experience as a band leader has skyrocketed to new heights and challenges. I’ve also achieved the best trombonist in Dallas of 2023 which was a cool accomplishment I do say so myself. I’ve also performed at Jimmy Kimmel with Joshua Ray Walker, played with Macy Gray at the House of Blues (in Houston and Dallas), and opened up for Ceelo Greene with the Nasty Brass Band. I’m still pursuing the never ending expansion of music knowledge by playing with more bands than ever: From Ravs and the Akrylx, 4YourSoul, Church4TheWorld, and numerous bands I’ve given my talents with. Although not the entire journey has been smooth; I recently lost my grandmother who was dear to my heart. She’s been a avid supporter of my music career. Even then, I’m striving for greatness with her in my heart.
Alright, so let’s do something a bit more fast-paced and lighthearted. We call this our lightning round and we’ll ask you a few quick questions.

Life is often about tough choices – can you talk to us about your thought process, strategy or philosophy when it comes to making difficult choices or tradeoffs.
I like to make the most out of any situation. There are numerous lessons I can learn from rough experiences throughout my life. That may sound cheesy but as long as I’m still breathing and mobile, there’s nothing I can’t do. In addition, there can be some benefits like networking, trying new things you wouldn’t have done before, etc.
