We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Hucks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca, why did you pursue a creative career?
In college I started not knowing my direction. I focused in sculpture and loved exploring that medium. After college my work became less sculptural and more watercolor based. I did mostly live-event painting and commissions. I created a name for myself as Rebecca Hucks Art which I am formerly known as. Some time after that season of life, I slowed down with commission based work and started getting crafty again, creating my hearts desire. Crocheting, journaling, painting, sculpting, dabbling in toy restoration, and literally all the things! If you knew me 7 years ago you know how much i have grown and evolved as an artist. That’s the beauty of art, it is always changing and evolving, and with that there is so much freedom.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The journey was not easy and I kind of explain it as a roller coaster. Being an artist you’re constantly in flux. There’s highs and lows and ground.
One of my biggest tips and something that’s help me stay motivated is to just “keep creating”. Create because YOU want to, because it’s YOUR passion, not for others or others approval. That help keeps the spark alive.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start our day with coffee (obvs) ;). I’d head over to Summer Moon or Roots in NRH. Breakfast would definitely be at Seven Mile Cafe. Then we’d go to Kimbel Art Museum because, duh. After we would definitely check out some local thrift stores and antique malls. There’s so many good ones in the area. For a late lunch early dinner, we would grab things for a picnic and head to bear creek park and find a place to cozy up and picnic and maybe read for a while.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband and family!
