We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Burt Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
The principle that matters the most to me in my business is discipline. There is a quote by Jim Rohn that I live by. He said, “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” Meaning, you can’t just wish for it. You have to work for it! Discipline creates habits that form actions! As a wedding planner, I can often trap myself in “Analysis Paralysis” and plan and think through every option or avenue for my business. While there is some merit in this, staying stuck in this phase gets you nowhere. Having the discipline to act on these plans has been the single biggest game changer in my business. While having the discipline to take actions in your business and in your life may seem daunting, I have found that the following works for me- 1. Just Decide! Make the commitment to yourself that you are going to be disciplined and develop good business habits. 2. Start Small! You don’t have to change everything all at once. Making small steps still starts you off walking in the right direction. 3. Don’t Quit! Even if you get off course one day, pick back up and start again the next day! Consistency is key, so just keep going!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a wedding planner and designer. I own my own company called As You Wish Events. What sets me apart from other wedding planners is my passion- I am hungry and I won’t stop until my name is synonymous with weddings. I care deeply about my clients and their experience. I want them to have an unforgettable wedding planning journey as well as an unforgettable wedding. I am most proud of the fact that I have touched people’s lives. So many of my clients say that their wedding planning experience would have been so stressful without me, so the fact that I have been able to create happy memories for so many people is truly rewarding. I’m also having so much fun and really excited about becoming a celebrity party planner with several appearances on “Real Housewives of Dallas” and other shows like “Say Yes to the Dress”. I’ve got to where I am today by being the hardest working person in the room, staying positive, operating out of respect and love for others and constantly learning. It was not easy, but discipline, consistency, and perseverance are the keys!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend was visiting Dallas, I would hope they LOVE sushi, because I would basically take them on a Sushi eating tour. From Kai in Plano, to Shinsei in Dallas, we would Sushi hop to all of the fun sushi restaurants in Dallas. I would also make them come take a hot yoga class with me at Yoga Factory Plano and walk around the Spring Creek Nature Trails in Richardson. We would get smoothie bowls at Nekter Juice Bar and then finish it off by going to my favorite spa at the Joule Hotel!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my husband, Abel Garcia. He is also an entrepreneur and has his own company. He is an artist that specializes in custom paintings. He is constantly hyping me up and encouraging me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or like I am unable to do something in my business, he challenges me to change my perspective and to just go for it!
