We had the good fortune of connecting with Priscilla Rivera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Priscilla, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought behind starting my own business was when I had gotten laid off on March 13, 2020, as an Accountant. I thought I was living the successful American Dream, meaning I went to school and graduated with an Associates in Science, Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX. As a fresh graduate, you believe you are able to find a secure job. I learned that there is no guarantee to any job and knew I wanted to be my own boss, but just didn’t know my passion “yet.” I was incredibly creative and loved to make crafts. In the middle of 2020 I attempted to learn how to do floral preservations and quickly gave up. It was an expensive hobby that I didn’t have the patience, at the time, to learn. Fast forward to 2022, when I married my husband(Robert); he seen the wedding bouquet preservation I had an artist create for me. I mentioned, “this was what I attempted to learn, but gave up.” Robert gave me the encouragement to try again because he knew I could do it, when I had given up the first time. With lots of practice and patience, I was finally able to take my first client in October 2023. My business has since grown full of clients that trust my work. I am grateful for all the opportunities I have been given and all of the vendors I’ve had the opportunity to work with.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what sets me apart from others is being ambitious enough to try new projects. The world has trends and if you do not follow the new trends, eventually the business will slow down. People have different tastes and I want to accommodate as many of their visions as I can. It gets me out of my comfort zone and allows me to bring out my creativity side. I am most proud of the fact that I have built this business from the ground up and want to continue to build on it. There are many obstacles that I am still learning to get through, but with time, I am gradually progressing. This wasn’t an easy journey, since everyone, including myself did not expect the business to grow as fast as it did. There were many challenges along the way, including learning how to correctly run a business, in such a short amount of time. I don’t believe I would be where I am today professionally without my parents. They strive to keep my brother and I on the right track, when we were younger. They were the type of parents that would reach for the stars and not let anyone stop them from achieving it. Growing up, I realized I would do the same, except I always played it safe. I was too afraid to risk money, time, and effort on something, I didn’t think would succeed. My husband, Robert is the reason I take risks, to this day. He believes without risk, you won’t know what you’re really capable of. If it wasn’t for a risk, A Touch of Life Preservations would not be here today. My brand is bringing a clients vision to life, whether it is a bridal bouquet, memorial flowers, or just because flowers. We want our clients to be able to look at a piece and remember their memories forever. There are so many opportunities that are to come and we can’t wait to continue our journey!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a big traveler! I’m typically the one who ventures out to see new things, but if I had friends visit, we would probably go to many different places. I am a big nature person, so going to different trails is something I love doing. The zoo or aquarium are also places I love to visit to see animals, but I also love country music. I grew up listening to country music and as I had gotten older, country concerts became a big part of my life. When I moved to Fort Worth, TX, the Stockyards and Billy Bob’s have been great for the night life! Fort Worth, TX has so many different things to do, you can always find something that can entertain visitors!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I would like to give a shoutout to my mom, dad, and my husband.

My parents made sure to push me in the right direction growing up. It was their goal to make sure, my brother and I had what they didn’t have, growing up. When I told them about my business, they were intrigued by it, because it was out of the box. They have always been supportive of my decisions and continue to support in any way they can.

My husband is another shoutout because I don’t believe A Touch of Life Preservations would be what it is today, without him. He is the risk taker between the two of us, and believes, “you can’t get anywhere in life without taking risks.” When he told me to finally take the risk of opening my business, neither of us truly thought it would be this successful in such a short amount of time. It will continue to be a journey that will have future risks, but I know I can count on him to help support any decisions I make, concerning my business.
