We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Curry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paul, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I had been in uniform for over 30 years serving in both the military and law enforcement and really wanted to become a ‘civilian’ again and try something different. I wanted to have the flexibility to balance my work/home life which was something I didn’t have before, and any decisions I made, good or bad, were my responsibility. My wife is also self-employed and works from home so we now have the ability to work around each other quite easily. Of course, there are occasions where that is not possible but more often than not we can choose the times we spend together or plan our vacations whenever we want.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Like I said earlier, I served over 30 years in both the military and law enforcement. Without a doubt, these both created a self discipline and an awareness of how far I could push myself in life. I have an array of experiences that I could quite honestly write a book about, but that will have to wait for another day. All these experiences have served me to become an individual with determination and communicational skills that help me relate to people from various walks of life. Going to real estate school was a big challenge for me as I had to learn to sit down and study again. When I picked up my study books from the real estate school after registering I nearly fainted on the spot when I saw how much there was. I realized this was an important step for me so I really studied hard everyday and when the time came to sitting the national and state exams, I passed first time.
In real estate communication is very important. Negotiation skills are important. Hopefully, I tick these boxes but I always have more to learn. One thing I’ve learned over the years is that you always have more to learn no matter where you are in life or what job you have. You also have to accept that you can’t please everyone. Do your best, and if someone takes a disliking to you or isn’t happy with you for whatever reason, move on, but be content that you’ve done the best you can. Law enforcement taught me that very quickly. Some people don’t like you just because you are a police officer without understanding who you are or even how nice you are to them. Some people just have a disposition to be that way, Be your best, and accept that you can’t please everyone all of the time.
I’m currently with Worth Clark Realty and really happy right now so no complaints.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As I live in Fort Worth, the first place I would take them is the Stockyards. Every visitor to Fort Worth likes to experience the Stockyards. They would have to see the daily cattle drive, attend a rodeo, and visit Billy Bobs Texas or the White Elephant saloon. If my military friends were to visit, I would take them to one or two (or three!) of the many local breweries as drinking is a popular pastime for them, lol.
An entertaining night out is the Four Day Weekend, downtown. It’s one of those improv comedy shows where you are always at risk of being picked out of the audience so you can be made fun of onstage! Depending on who’s performing, maybe the Hyena comedy club also which is nearby.
I would probably also take them on a trip through the Hill Country and down to San Antonio to visit the Alamo. A visit to Texas isn’t complete without a pilgrimage to the Alamo.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt, my parents and my wife! Whilst I didn’t always make the decisions my parents would have liked, they always got behind me and supported me 100% in everything I have done in life. Maybe I didn’t spend enough time with my school education but I succeeded in everything I set out to do. My wife is someone who is exceptionally patient with me and very supportive. She is always there when I need anything and will do whatever it takes to help me in any of my life choices. Really, I couldn’t ask for more.
