We had the good fortune of connecting with Papi AQ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Papi AQ, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. Migrated to Toronto, Canada in early 2000s. My mother and father were both very musically inclined i grew up seeing my father perform covers and songs he wrote. From early age being around a lot of positive and supportive energy. A little rough around the edges being a first generation immigrant into a foreign country. Regardless of the language barrier, and the obstacles put in our way, we always pushed for something better. The grind and multicultural environment had a hand in shaping my sound.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a bilingual artist sing and rap in both English and Spanish. My sound is originated from my Toronto upbringing, the melting pot. Filled with Different cultures and backgrounds, meeting different people soaking in their culture and sounds. As Well as my latino side listening to all the greats. Recently reaching close to 1 Million streams overall on spotify, 250k views on my youtube videos, lots of new music, new sounds, amazing vibes coming soon. Everything from Trap to Rnb, Reggaeton, Afro beats, EDM/ dance, my music has no boundaries. Music is a universal language and a great way to express ourselves and connect with others around the world. Some challenges I’m facing is a very small latin community in Toronto and Canada, so most of my listeners are from everywhere else. Trying to bring all latinos together to make a stronger presence and showcasing some of our beautiful work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them for a drive down the Gardiner/ Don Valley to see the whole city skyline. Get food and drinks downtown, then hit one of our studios because we always working!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My whole camp @latinogang.tv @soundscanstudios @elroi258 . For a long time I was handling my own business alone, managing myself handling bookings, gigs etc. Recently have grown and have a team now producers, studios, engineers, videographers, photographers. Just full of self motivated driven individuals, with a common goal. Chasing our dreams, trying to make an impact in the world.
