We had the good fortune of connecting with Miles Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miles, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Allura Aviation because I saw a gap between support for pilots that want to operate newer and faster airplanes and the aircraft charter industry. Owning aircraft is expensive and complex. Most owners also underutilize their aircraft. That is where Allura Aviation brings value.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Any path in aviation is a challenging one. It requires that you have absolute devotion and passion to it. I think growing up as a blues and jazz musician prepared me for the challenges of aviation. Aviation takes constant practice and commitment to remain proficient and competitive. Music was very similar. My goal with Allura Aviation is to create an environment for pilot’s to pursue their dreams.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well you can’t come to the cattle state without going after BBQ and steak, Pecan Lodge is my go to spot for brisket and great sides. Local Hack: Skip the line and order a beer at the bar and grab a stool. You can order and eat right there without a wait. Then head over to Deep Ellum Brewery for great drafts and local music. Then to Mamma Tried for great cocktails and more music. Marren Morris was hanging out there last time I was there. You never know who you will see in Dallas. Nick And Sam’s in Uptown is my Go TO! for the ultimate Dallas steak dinner, Wagyu, King Crab, Tomahawk Ribeyes, if you can dream it they have it, and prepare to perfection. They also have one of the best bars in Uptown. Dress to impress. After dinner it is over to the State Thomas Neighborhood for cocktails at Parliament, the best cocktail longue in the city. They have a two story liquor cabinet and incredible vibe with smoked cocktails. Trust me on the smoked. It is a unique experience. They also have traditional cocktails that we have all forgotten.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Allura Aviation would love to give a Shoutout to Angel Flight South Central. Elizabeth Hancy and her team work tirelessly to organize donated flights and pilots with patients and service organizations to get them where they need to go without having to figure out how to raise funding or deal with the complex regulatory nature of aviation. Allura Aviation has enjoyed donating aircraft and pilots for Angel Flight Missions. Our crew always returns home with incredible stories of fortitude and servitude. We plan to sustain a partnership with Angel Flight South Central long into the future. (www.angelflighsc.org)
