We had the good fortune of connecting with Micah Irwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m Micah, and I own and operate Legacy Woodworks, which is a local artisan woodworking company. I create handmade goods out of wood, epoxy, and leather. There are a lot of challenges in starting a business as an 11 year-old! There are lots of things I can’t do for myself yet, but I am also getting to learn things now that some people don’t learn until they are much older. I think starting early is going to help me a lot in my professional life later.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love visiting AT&T Stadium where the Dallas Cowboys play. I’ve gotten to play on the field there a few times through youth football, and it’s really cool! Watching the Stars play is really fun too. I like eating at Marty B’s in Bartonville with my family, and at Earls 377 in Argyle.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Dad has been teaching me how to create things since I was really little. He’s helped me in the shop throughout my business, and helps me overcome any problems I come across. While I research new techniques on my own sometimes, my Dad is definitely the one who taught me my skills. My Mom helps me be creative in coming up with new products. Since my parents are business owners themselves, they have taught me how to run a business.
