We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Sanders and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, what do you attribute your success to?
I LOVE my clients. I truly want to create images that my clients will love. I’m successful because of the intentional connection that I make with my clients. Many of my clients, I now call friends. Also, I love to hear their vision for their photos. Their vision and my creativity go hand in hand. Lastly, I have a lot of patience. Patience is valuable when working with different personalities. I truly enjoy this aspect of my business.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been photographing children and families for over ten years. My business quickly evolved into so much more. The teens that I photographed in my early days are now growing up and are getting married. It’s an honor when they ask me to document one of the most important days in their life. Their wedding day! It’s all about bonding with your clients. I’ve made so many friends along this journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love downtown McKinney, TX! We would spend one of the days in the historic district visiting all the adorable shops. Some of my favorite shops are Birds and Words, Ettiene Market, Antique Company Mall, Ambrosia, Chase Hall, Home Pieces to name a few. Then we would go to Patina Green for lunch. After that, we would head over to Mom and Popcorn shop for some of their gourmet popcorn! If you’ve never been to downtown McKinney, I highly recommend that you check it out!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many peers in my field that I admire, but the person that inspires me isn’t a photographer. She is an artist. She is literally one of the hardest working people that I know. She’s an abstract artist and does so much more with her talents. Her name is Dian Rome Smith. Wonderful lady inside and out! And such talent!!! You can find her at: http://www.dianeromesmith.com/
