We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan + Marissa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan + Marissa, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
COMMUNICATION IS KEY! Going into business together, we have grown exponentially personally as well as professionally. While for the most part our business is fun… we do have to have the tough conversations for the sake of our company and friendship. We keep an open communication line and also have an abundance of respect for each other to ensure effective conversations are being had.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Making dog bandanas truly has been such a fun “side-gig”. Though, it took off faster than we thought! At first, it was easy. We would make some bandanas and show up to markets with our minimal set-up and have a blast. Then the customers came flowing in. We still find so much joy with our business but it is harder today than before. More orders/ demand = more time invested into the business. It gets hard some times but our success lately has come from our effective communication and respect for each other. It not only keeps our business successful but also our friendship.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Love this question because we love hosting people here in Dallas!
Each neighborhood (Lower Greenville, Uptown, Bishop etc.) offers unique experiences. We would probably try to take our friends to each neighborhood through out the week. Eating at some of the popular spots in each and stopping for drinks at a cute pop-up or dive!
During the day we would probably enjoy our apartment pools for some day-drinking and meeting new people.
One of our fav spots in Dallas is Mutts Cantina. We would bring them there with our pups and enjoy the Adirondacks with a frozen drink. Maybe even have a mini pop up to show them our business life for a couple hours.
Taking a walk on the Katy trail and one trolley ride is a must!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would like to dedicate our success to both of our parents. From day one they were our greatest supporters. From donating production supplies to helping set up our first few markets. Their support doesn’t end there.. they also provide sound advice when needed and emotional support (for all the tired late nights and busy seasons).
Another very important person we would like to give a shout out to is Chloe from Mutts Cantina. She scoped us out at one of our first markets and immediately extended a partnership that took our business from 0 to 100. She welcomes us to sell at all Mutts locations and always extends invites to any events she organizes for Mutts.
