We had the good fortune of connecting with Mecoiya Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mecoiya, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always felt that your passion is the very thing you do that makes you effortlessly happy. For me, creating things has always been that thing. No matter if I’m crafting or writing,I find myself being happy in that space, so in a sense I couldn’t escape a creative career. When I decided to do what made me happy, my passion was right there.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a urban fiction author and a business owner. I sell motivational t-shirts, tumblers, cups, bags, and few more things. I’m most proud of the fact that I didn’t allow self-doubt keep me from living my dreams and stepping out on faith. Professionally it wasn’t easy finding my niche. I spent a crazy amount of time and energy focusing on people who weren’t meant to understand my gift and my vision. You have to know who you are catering to, especially as a creative. I’m gifted in several areas and I always felt like I had to choose one area or one gift, but I’ve learned that my gifts and abilities compliment one another. I can do everything that God has gifted me to do! I want people to know that my brand is meant to create a belief within everyone I come in contact with, that anything is possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First of all, we’re going to Papadeaux as soon as I pick her up from the airport, We would definitely visit the Grapevines Mills Mall, Tanger Outlets, Creative Hands art studio, we’re hitting downtown Fort Worth hard and heavy because there are a million things to do down there, and while we’re down there we’re stopping in Uno’s because they have amazing pizza. I would be sure to take her to the Museum of Science and History and the Kimbell Art Museum. A few places that I would also take her would be Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux, Coyote drive-in, and the Zoo because how can you come to visit without going to the zoo?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I have to shoutout to God who gave me my gifts. Then I have to shoutout my mini-me who gave me the push to make my dreams a reality, and then my parents and big sister, because they support all of my crazy ideas.

Lastly, I want to shoutout Rundee Smith aka Ms.Teezy. She was my mentor in high school and no matter how okay I was with just being okay, she constantly instilled in me that greatness was possible if I believed in myself and worked hard for it. Watching her chase her dreams always made me throw out any excuse not to chase mine,
