We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, we’d love to hear about the influences and inspirations behind who you are today. Who or what had the biggest influence on your career?
Motion design was not in my cards until a college professor, Dirk, pushed me in the right direction. Luckily, my friends signed up for a motion class, and I decided to go along for the ride. After the first assignment, Dirk saw my potential and believed in me so much that he passed off a freelance gig to hook me up instead. That project jumpstarted my career in motion design and gave me the confidence to pursue it as a full-time career. Six years later, I’m still going strong, and I am incredibly thankful for where I am today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a freelancing, California-born, and Texas-dwelling animator. My specialty is crafting motion with smooth, sleek energy delivered in a nutshell of impressive moves. I mix graphics, music, and effects to create a custom package that brings the client’s work to life by connecting with the heart of their brand. Motion makes the design come alive, plus it makes people pretty happy when they see their work moving, which is the highlight of what I do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For my California friends, I would take them to all my favorite local photography spots: Sundance Square, Water Gardens, downtown Dallas, and finish it off with a sunset drone shoot on the Campion Trail.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Although many creatives have contributed to my journey and craft (special shoutout to the DFW mograph community), I am most grateful for my wife. Jessica continues to support and encourage my business as I continue to pursue a full-time creative career. I could not do it without you!
