We had the good fortune of connecting with Marina Sbrochi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marina, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite phrase is, “If you don’t ask the question, the answer is always no.”
More than 20 years ago I was dating a guy with a successful exterior remodeling company. He was an awful human, but a great salesman and that was his favorite quote.
What I like about this quote is the multitude of meanings it has.
This relationship was the first and most abusive relationship I was in.
To the millions of people that find themselves in abusive relationships, you are well aware of the damage it does to your self esteem after you leave. Then comes the healing. In the healing process, one can begin to find what they have learned or maybe a nugget of wisdom from their experience.
This quote was that nugget.
First, because in that relationship, I had no voice. I was not in my power and I did not use my voice.
After that experience….I learned to advocate and speak up for myself more. I figured, what is the worst that can happen. NO. That’s it. I’m not going to die or be trapped in a crappy relationship. It is just the word no.
One of the best ways to mitigate regrets is to ask more of the questions to yourself and others that can move things forward.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed esthetician and my business is called Energetic Glow.
I’m not just your average facialist.
At Energetic Glow I believe that good skin radiates from the inside out. Combining skincare with energy work. I am certified in Reiki and have been trained in Clinical Hypnosis from the Milton Erikson Foundation.
When you step into Energetic Glow, you are greeted with a warm cup of tea as you place your feet on the grounding mat and we talk about your skincare goals. From there, you relax on a bed that has 14 lbs of amethyst crystals and infared heat.
You can add a hypnosis or affirmations to your facial. You can finish your facial with a soundbath and an oracle card.
I use mostly women owned skincare products in my business that are free from the major toxic ingredients. The lines I use in my back bar are Herbal Skin Solutions, Le Mieux and Eminence. I have the XPeel and BioRePeel — both no downtime, game changing peels for changing your skin.
I work with you to balance your skin from the inside and out so that you not only look glowing, but feel glowing as well.
This is a relatively new career although I am a 35 yr. veteran user of skincare products and beauty gadgets. I went to esthetician school at 50 and decided to start my own business so that I could combine my skills as a licensed counselor and hypnotist to bring together a totally new experience for my clients.
Nothing is easy of course. I am still in the building phase of this business.
That being said — I’d love to see you. Let me know that you saw this article and you can add hypnosis to your facial for free and get a special price on the Energetic Glow Facial.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hey Bestie! So glad you could make it to Dallas.
Let’s start at Civil Pour near my house. The Keto Warlock coffee drink is perfection in the morning. We can take our coffees and walk around the cute area there over at “The Hill” – so many cute murals.
Why not get a mani pedi at Rose Couture Nail bar — right there at The Hill. This place is so pretty inside and they do a great job!
We don’t even have to leave The Hill yet. Wok Star for lunch because it’s some of the yummiest Chinese food and the best noodles.
Of course, if you are “shopper” you have to go to North Park Mall. Not only is everything you want and more there, but the art and landscaping inside that mall — that’s what I mostly go there to look at.
Another place you can spend all your money is Highland Park Village. Shopping and food and people watching. All the fancy shops and during the holidays, it is lit up so beautifully.
I am more of a consignment resale shopper lately. Clotheshorse Anonymous in Preston Forest is my go to. Also Dulce in the Design District for furniture.
Let’s get outside people! The Sopac Trail — you can get on near my house and I like to do a 4 to 5 mile walk.
Do not miss White Rock Lake either. We can stop to enjoy the water. Get a paddle boat or do a really long walk around the water. The Katy Trail is another fun trail with some stops on the way if you need a bite or drink.
We are definitely eating at Mot Hai Ba for dinner. One of my favorite restaurants in Dallas.
I am not a big drinker anymore at all. Two max and most of the time one or none. So not really a bar person.
However, I love live music and I love to dance. We are definitely seeing some live music. My favorite venue is It’ll Do in Deep Ellum — the BEST DJ’S and dancing. Of course, I’ll follow my favs to any venue in Dallas.
Depending on the season — you’ve got to check out a Mavs or Stars game.
The most exclusive club….my balcony — that’s only for invited guests.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am so lucky that one of my biggest cheerleaders is my mom. She has always encouraged me to go for it. She has given me so many books over the course of my life and one particular book she gave me, right after I left that abusive relationship in my mid 20’s.
The book is Something More: Excavating Your Authentic Self by Sarah Ban Breathnach. This book was such a game changer for me that I gifted it to every woman I knew for the next 5 years. The book is a collection of different women telling the story of their life and how they were once on a path seemingly not meant for them and how they took charge of their lives and charted their own authentic course.
Sometimes, it’s one act of kindness by someone that changes your life. After this abusive relationship and reading the book, I decided I wanted to move to NYC. This could have never happened without two things. One, the unending kindness of one of my college besties Kristen Barber who told me to use her NYC address and phone for my resume (to get better offers) and let me live with her for 6 months for $200/month so that I could save up to get my own place.
The second piece for me to move to NYC was getting a job that paid enough to live there. I was in tech support and the interview I had for the highest paying job — the interviewer was a woman and when she asked why I was moving from Columbus to NYC, I was honest with her. Having been in an abusive relationship herself (ask any women you know – 4 out of 5 will have been) she understood the need for me to get away. I don’t know if that is the reason I got hired over other people (yes I was qualified for the job) or not — but I got the job and was able to move away from him.
From there I’d like to shoutout Dr. Jada Jackson who took a chance on me after grad school, hired me as a counselor for Total Life Counseling and let me use hypnosis as a modality.
During this time I found myself in a different type of abusive relationship (look up the domestic violence power and control wheel if you want to know what DV is) and being a counselor and mother and pretty much drowning and because of all this had health problems.
The second wake up and the people that absolutely changed my life for the better for this second half are Dr. Amy Lewis and Dr. Tyler Lewis of Self Unbound. Their method of network spinal analysis and care was able to allow me to see that the pain in my life was actually there to wake me up to what was going around me, so that I could get my power back and be present to heal it.
Which is exactly what I did! It’s been 7 years since I started going to Self Unbound and I am the most satisfied with my life as I have ever been.
