We had the good fortune of connecting with Mandy O’Neill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mandy, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
It is so important for my husband and me to install good values in our boys. I have always told my children to be kind, brave and humble, while following our faith. One specific area here is to focus on the needs of others. As someone who has professionally worked in the world of philanthropy for over two decades, I believe in giving back. It not only helps others in need, but the greater gift is how it impacts us personally. Focusing on the needs of others promotes kindness, bravery, and respect….all of which the world can always use!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
After working in the non-profit sector for 20 years, Mandy recently accepted a position with National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), a mission that is close to her heart. NBCF is dedicated to help women now by providing help and inspiring hope to those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education and support services. NBCF offers free, innovative programs that other organizations aren’t providing to women facing breast cancer so that no one faces breast cancer alone. NBCF is one of the most recognized and respected breast cancer charities in the world. NBCF has received the highest 4-star rating by Charity Navigator, America’s premier charity evaluator, for 14 years. On average, over 80% of their revenue is directed to life-saving programs.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Perot Museum of Nature and Science along with a stay at the Joule Hotel! Of course, if it was in the Fall, a stop by the State Fair of Texas would be a must.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my MOM, who taught me from day 1 to always be kind, give people the benefit of the doubt and go for things you want…because you never know unless you try!
