We had the good fortune of connecting with Maddie Beans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maddie, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
To be brave. I always wanted to start my own business but always talked myself out of it. I wish I had started this years ago. There is never a perfect time to do anything. Don’t get me wrong, you need to stop and use as much wisdom as you can before jumping into something, but you should also have the wisdom to look at your reasons behind stalling and recognize the fear in them.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Design Bean is dedicated to helping business owners build a brand on authenticity that they can stand by with the kind of confidence that only comes from something that makes them proud. That brand is supposed to communicate the mission and the culture of that company and that is what we do. We want to work with you to understand your business almost as much as you do so we can help you interpret your values to your clients and to the people you want to work for you.

I have spent so long learning everything I can about marketing and branding. I have a mindset that people respond to and I want to help you overcome your challenges while we each learn from one another! It has been so hard to get here. There was fear in working for myself. There is a risk you take. I understand the risk and the care you have for your business and I want to show as much care for your success as you do. Almost. No one will love your business like you do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well being a Dentonite, I would have to say come to Denton! Try to come during Wassail Fest, Arts and Jazz Fest, Blues Fest, Dog Days, or any of the amazing things our city likes to put on.

Monday: Relax on the square with West Oak Coffee, then eat, drink, and be merry at Barley & Board
Tuesday: Breakfast at Loco Cafe, Frisbee golf at the park, then LSA for the evening!
Wednesday: Recycled Books, Jupiter house for a famous cinnamon roll and coffee, shopping at Les Muses Vintage and Old bear vintage, and dinner and drinks at the food trucks at Austin St. Truck stop and East Side Denton.
Thursday: The water park or hiking around Ray Roberts Lake then Twilight Tunes on the square with Juicy Pig BBQ
Friday: Hopefully they are there for a festival! Arts and Jazz basically all day and on through Saturday!
Sunday: Community Market and brunch at Chestnut tree. Relax till Dinner at El Taco H with the best street tacos around and some kickin Margaritas

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My dad. He passed away last year but he always knew I could do this. He was the best mentor to a ton of people and loved to teach others. He taught me what confidence really is. How important it is to own your own mistakes and move forward. How to love others through your work and always put an honest foot forward. He was an inspiration to me.
