We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyn Berman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I was 9 years old, my father took my brother and myself to a prison to show us what would happen if we did something bad! That is when I knew, I wanted to change the world for women as everyone deserves a 2nd chance.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are finishing our 28th year in operation, serving more than 29,000 women. Every woman who attends Attitudes & Attire is referred by social service agencies, schools or organizations in North Texas. Over 300 agencies refer deserving women in need of our services.

We took baby steps over the years, always staying within our mission. I am excited to know many of our women come back to volunteer with other women as they have moved forward in their lives. Nothing speaks louder that someone who has walked the walk to help others. Also, there are 6 of us on staff, 3 of whom have started as clients and now are part of the TEAM!

I learn each day from the women I meet at our workshops and also running the agency. The Pandemic has hurt many agencies- all our workshops were in house until the pandemic closed our agency. That wasn’t going to work for us as the need was so great. The next month we set all our workshops on ZOOM ! We couldn’t dress the women at that time so we had a list to have them come in after the Pandemic.

As I mentioned, Our Mission and Vision always stay the same. We have 4 programs, CORE, workforce Development & Self Esteem, Boots to Heels, for women in the military our community, Hopeful Smiles, dental program and our Spanish Speaking program. All of these programs have evolved over the years as we have seen the need in the community.
This is our Brand and my DREAM of changing the world for women and my story.

MISSION: A & A is a non-profit agency dedicated to promoting personal growth for women seeking self-sufficiency. Our unique program provides the tools that raise self-esteem, promote ethics and build the confidence necessary to develop successful life skills.

Vision: Our vision is building confidence and changing lives for the women we serve.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Would eat at Lucky’s or First Watch for breakfast – then on to Princi Italia – Ppreston Royal for lunch or Fish City Preston Royal, or Momo’s Preston Forest for lunch. For Dinner TJ’s Preston Royal, or Carbones or Renny’s for dinner. Shopping at WHBM or North Park- Love Ft Worth Stock Yard and walking around in Ft Worth – great people watching.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am dedicating The Shoutout to my husband, Harold, who passed away 5-1/2 years ago. His support, love and encouragement of what was in my heart was who gave me the courage to move forward with my dream. My brother deserves a little credit for telling me “put one foot in front of the other and never look back”
