We had the good fortune of connecting with Lydia Kyle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lydia, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I think most people aren’t aware of all the different “hats” a social media influencer wears for their platforms. If a person is truly monetizing their social media platforms they are not only creating trending content daily, they are also marketing themselves to brands for collaborations, monitoring trends on social platforms, and in most cases, working on projects to broaden their reach. For example, I’m popular on Tiktok and Instagram… I don’t spend all day making videos. I’m working with brands daily to earn an income by sharing products with my followers, growing my own email lists, running an Etsy store with products I’ve made myself that are relevant to my “brand” on social media, doing interviews for publications like this, appearing on podcasts, all while being a wife & mother.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I got my start in Network Marketing. I still run a successful business through the health & wellness company I work with, and I enjoy that work tremendously. However, my social media platforms happened by “accident”. I say “accident” because at the end of the day, the goal is always to go viral, but it doesn’t always pan out. That said, I had a video go viral in late 2021 that started an avalanche I’m still riding! As corny as it sounds, I saw the opportunity and I seized it. When I began to grow in popularity on my social media for sharing the authentic, relatable side of being a rural woman involved in agriculture I took the momentum and ran with it. Since then, I’ve grown my platforms to over 170,000 followers collectively and work with brands from around the world to monetize what used to just be a digital diary.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I went to college at Texas Christian University, so my love of Fort Worth is rooted in girlish nostalgia. Not only that, I’m a cowgirl & there is just something special about Cow Town! So, if my friend were visiting Fort Worth some “must do” activities are a visit to the TCU Bookstore and a stroll through campus with a coffee, a trip to the ever evolving Fort Worth Zoo, lunch a Blue Sushi on West 7th, and then finishing off with an evening in the Stockyards! My favorite place in the Stockyards is the new Cowboy Channel Bar, it’s so classy and and easy hang out spot with no cover charge… However, if you’re in for a little more cowboy nightlife, Cadillacs is the place to be!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I truly have to acknowledge my husband for this support and patience. Many people view social media & online marketing as frivolous, but he has always allowed me the time/space to grow my platforms. Never once has he doubted the potential of my business online, if anything he has pushed me to see even bigger picture scenarios over the last year. Strangely enough, I also have to thank the small town I grew up in. I grew up fairly isolated from the world and social media (shout out MySpace) became my connection. I knew from a young age that I loved social media, I’m just blessed that I found a way to get paid to do it!
