We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Mayers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Ultimately my thoughts were for my family as a way to break the generational curses. To provide a platform for my legacy to grow and prosper. But first I had to get over the fear of the unknown. To make a conscious decision to not listen to the nay sayers and to believe in myself. To constantly tell myself to be patient and not to rush. Always remembering to have a plan A, B,C and etc. I made sure to understand that people will care one moment and not the next so to make sure I’m doing something that makes me happy!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My project is a independent feature film called Pressure which is out now on Tubi and other streaming networks. . It was produced in my hometown of Little Rock Arkansas. The story was created with my co writer Nikki Johnson, and we developed two characters who through different paths end up navigating a emotional rollercoaster of fear, betrayal, heartbreak and murder. The story was the easy part. Developing a script and realistically making fantasy into reality was another story. Producing was uncharted territory. I had no experience, or background in film. I knew nothing about storyboarding and editing. I hired a young filmmaker who was passionate about making films and we connected. He had way more experience then me but this project was ambitious for both of us. Having to get educated behind the eight ball is crazy but that’s what we did. We took our bumps and bruises as we stood in the mud. We learned valuable costly lessons due to the negligence of others and inexperience of ourselves. Moving forward I learned to always trust your gut! Believe in yourself. People will let you down!! Don’t hold grudges and make the best impression with everyone you meet. As I approach my new project, I have learned to embrace what i have worked so hard for. I have learned to enjoy the moment and give each project the love and support it needs to grow! I am most proud that I was able to create a vehicle that showcased some of the best musicians, models, entrepreneurs, comedians, actors and local businesses that my city has to offer!! We showcased Arkansas clothing brands as well as helped aspiring entertainers by giving them a platform to shine!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start our morning in the River Market for some good shopping and lunch!! I would take them to see the Clinton Library, Central High School and the Little Rock 9 statutes. Of course I would have to take them to McIntosh for their world famous cheeseburger and sweet potato pie! For nightlife, I would take them to Club Trois for happy hour and the best lemon drops in the city. Saturday morning at K hall is a must and a stop by Hearns Art Gallery is also in order! For a good ladies spa day, I would visit Pampered Boutique and Wellness for a yoni steam, foot detox and some good vibes! Also Way out Wings for some really great wings! I like to eat so of course. Who doesn’t love wings. At last a visit to our newly remodeled Ark Art Center!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m surrounded by some pretty amazing people who give me so much love and who really believe in me. My shoutout would have to go to Bryan Hill who is my partner in Pressure Universe. It had to be god sent for a complete stranger to believe in your dream more than you. My baby became our baby and the projects to come are absolutely mind blowing.
