We had the good fortune of connecting with Liliana Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liliana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was inspired to start my business by one of my best friends since the third grade. She asked me to help plan her wedding and it was a great success! When we returned from her honeymoon, she encouraged me. I was a little hesitant telling I don’t know the first thing about planning a wedding, I simply followed the same process for her wedding that I did for mine when it came to planning and design. Little did I know, that didn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what it means to not only plan and design events, but manage a successful business. Nonetheless, I discussed with my husband and he told me to go for it! The next thing I know, I am planning and coordinating weddings for next to nothing while I got more experience. I quickly began to realize that I could do the darn thing so I reached out to a local venue for mentorship opportunities. Unfortunately, that relationship did not last long, but by then I felt I had enough experience to truly go out on my own, so I did. I got my DBA, and created my website and social media profiles then got to work! Fast-forward 6 years and here we are! About two and a half years in, my business was growing exponentially. After prayerful nights, my husband gave me his blessing to leave my 9-5 job and focus on building my business full-time. I would not be where I am without the encouragement and support of my family and friends!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe what sets me apart from many wedding and event professionals first and foremost is that I am bilingual. I speak, read and write fluent Spanish. Lily Green Weddings & Events is a Latinx-owned business and I don’t strive to be your typical cookie-cutter wedding planner. I don’t only plan and design weddings. I become a couple’s advocate, confidant and #1 supporter of their wedding dreams. Our clients have culturally diverse backgrounds and are 100% different with their own story to tell.

I am most proud of the relationships I have built over the years. My clients call me family and my industry peers call me a friend. I am very excited about the future of LGWE as we are in the right position to grow my team. My prayer is to add another lead planner and a wedding planning assistant within the next year, and perhaps a floral designer within the next two. Let’ God’s will be done!

An important lesson I learned along this journey is to just do me. I spent so much effort trying to be like other wedding planners, to do things a certain way and cater to a certain type of client. It’s just not me. I would say to any aspiring wedding planner, don’t try to be like everybody else because you’re not. Be you and the right people will come.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would take them to the Fort Worth Stockyards to eat and shop, maybe end the day with a ghost tour or go to a concert at Billy Bob’s. We’d spend a lazy day at Panther Island checking out their concerts while we float the river and end the day at Four Day Weekend or bar-hopping on 7th Street. We will definitely be having Sunday brunch at Blue Mesa! I would take them to Six Flags in Arlington, tour the AT&T Stadium and catch a Rangers game. We would spend a day in Bishop Arts and check out the view from Reunion Tower at night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
1. A shoutout to God for putting the right mentors, peers and clients in my life at the right time who have helped me get where I am today.

2. A shoutout to my dear girlfriend, Marlene. If it weren’t for her suggestion and encouragement to start an event planning business, I probably never would have.

3. A shoutout to my husband, Daniel, for his never-ending support and helping me build and run my business.

4. A shoutout to all the industry professionals who I now call friends, who have been a sounding board for me and have lifted my spirits when things got a little more difficult than I expected.

5. Shoutout to our amazing clients for trusting us and allowing us to be a part of your special day! Without them, we would not be here.
