Meet Lia Bai | Christian Comedian & Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lia Bai and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lia, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
Legacy is something I’ve been pondering a lot, especially as I move through the third act of my life. While doing a life interview by asking myself questions from childhood to adulthood, I shared some of these questions with my beloved daughter, who’s now a college student. One day, I asked her, “How would you remember me?” She said, “You are cheerful, loving, and generous.” I asked, “What makes you say I’m generous?” She replied, “You would do anything for me and Dad!” I was so touched by her words! It’s important to me that my family and friends feel that I always support and care for them. Then I asked, “Do you think I’m funny?” I was hoping she would say “yes” because I’m a comedian. Her answer: “Sometimes.”
As a lifelong learner, I’ve never shied away from challenging myself and exploring new paths. I want people to remember me as someone who was not only cheerful and kind but also courageous in pursuing dreams and embracing change. In essence, I want my legacy to be that of a cheerful, kind, and courageous person who made a positive impact on those around me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a Christian comedian, comedy is my vehicle to serve God. I weave storytelling with punchlines, inspirational messages, and Bible verses. My live performances cover a variety of topics, including relationships, parenting, traveling, marriage, aging, and the experiences of American-Chinese immigrants. As a skilled and dynamic speaker, I create opportunities for the audience to learn valuable life lessons entertainingly. I’m a performing artist on a mission to transform work and life with humor.
My speaking journey has been a rollercoaster—interesting, lonely, and rewarding. I was born and raised in Chengdu, China, a beautiful southern city famous for its spicy food and giant pandas. Through the twists and turns of my life and career, I stumbled upon something unexpected: my natural talent for stand-up comedy. As a female, Asian, and ESL speaker with an accent, I realized I had a unique angle. While stand-up can be intimidating for many, for me, it felt like home.
Along my speaking journey, I have learned many valuable lessons. One important lesson as a comedian is to discover if you are naturally funny and understand why you are doing stand-up. You have a better chance of success when you work within your area of talent; the comedy world can be muddy and challenging. Knowing who you are and your purpose in doing stand-up comedy—beyond getting rich and famous—will guide your heart, mind, and mouth in front of the audience.
I brand myself as a Texas cowgirl made in China. You can watch my video shorts on YouTube and connect with me on Facebook or Instagram. I’m available for hire to entertain your audience at church programs, social gatherings, and corporate events.
In addition to bringing laughter to the world, I want to help new immigrants find their voice. My book, *LAMPS: Communication Strategies for Global Leaders*, is available on Amazon and Audible. I am also working on a new book and/or podcast titled *Sweet Sour Motherhood*.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan. There are a lot of fun things to do. Here is a 5-day itinerary I recommend:
Day 1-2: Exploring Downtown Dallas
Day 3: Relaxation at White Rock Lake and Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden
Day 4: Shopping and Entertainment in Dallas
Day 5: Visiting historic Fort Worth Excursion

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am who I am today thanks to the support and encouragement of so many wonderful people, especially my husband and my daughter. And of course, I owe a huge thank you to God for the blessings, mercy, and grace that have helped me find my identity as a first-generation Chinese immigrant and discover my calling to serve others with my voice.
