We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Yarbrough and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Iv’e always worked for someone else. Whether that was a corporate restaurant or the salon I started at 12 years ago doing lash extensions. When I thought about starting my own business, I was terrified! I didn’t know the first thing about doing this on my own. Luckily I have a great support system at home and with Ben Hudgins at Novak Hair Studios. Slowly I started from scratch building and working on my brand, Funky Town Lashes. I am so excited and thrilled I made the choice to be my own boss! Owning my own business has been so rewarding and I am looking forward to building and growing to be the best Fort Worth can offer.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Funky Town Lashes strives to be the best lash extensions salon in Fort Worth. I specialize in classic and volume extensions. I have over 12 years experience in this field and continue learning new techniques and ways to improve my skills. I also offer lash and brow to tinting, brow lamination and lash lifts. Whatever your lash needs, I can assure you will be in good hands with me. I only use the best and most up to date and safe products to ensure my clients get the service and quality experience they deserve. Eyelash extensions can change your whole mood in just a couple hours! I absolutely love making others feel good and my favorite part of doing lashes is the look on the faces of my clients after they see themselves after their service. It brings me great joy to make others feel their most beautiful!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Fort Worth!!! We are growing and expanding and bringing wonderful restaurants and bars into the city. My favorite area is West 7th Street. There you can catch a movie at Movie Tavern, have an amazing brunch at Cork and Pig, then follow it up with drinks on the patio at America’s Garden where you can play oversized games like connect four or jenga all in the same block!! I love patios and Fort Worth has some of the best! Lola’s Bar has the best patio in town with live music almost every weekend. They also have food trucks and Lola’s rummage sale once a month where local vendors can sell their homemade products. Near SouthSide is a new and upcoming neighborhood that has some really cool places to eat and drink like Hot Box Biscuits and Hop Fusion brewery. I love to explore my city and find new places to hang out!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family has been such a great support system for me on opening up my own business. They have been there from day one with continued help and support and encourage me to push my creativity to the max. My amazing husband, Matt has been my rock and my sounding board to bounce ideas off of. He has never been anything but super supportive and understanding. And of course I have to shoutout Ben and Justin Hudgins of Novak Hair Studios. These guys have been very close friends of mine for a very long time. When I chose to be my own boss and business owner, both of them pushed me to never stop building and growing. They shoot me straight and have never steered me wrong. They have both been open and honest and have always backed me. I can always count on them to be there when I have any questions or need advice or a shoulder to cry on. Their encouragement and guidance has been a major key to my success. I wouldn’t be where I am today without these amazing people in my life! Thank you!!
