We had the good fortune of connecting with Lark Jordan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lark, why did you pursue a creative career?
My name is Lark Jordan, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am the owner and founder of Lark Counseling, a private practice where I work with clients from ages 10 to 70+. My clients often experience challenges within romantic relationships, life transitions, or difficulty performing to the best of their ability as athletes or professionals.

My calling is to work alongside individuals who are seeking personal growth. By creating a space where clients can experience each emotion with patience and perspective, I foster trust and safety. This, in turn, leads to positive processing of experiences through genuine care and gentle guidance.

I am fortunate to have grown up with a supportive family and community who provided guidance and encouragement during both difficult and joyous times. The helpers in my life are why I chose to work in the mental health field. And as a counselor, I strive to give the same support to each person who walks through my office doors.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What set’s Lark Counseling apart from others is the experience in many different areas of mental health. I have worked in variety of settings since 2017 including nonprofit organizations, school districts, college clinics, and private practices.

I specialize in treating adults and children, ages 10 and up, facing challenges related to anxiety, depression, life transitions, boundary setting, relationships, grief, and loss. I offer couples and family therapy, recognizing the importance of healthy connections. Additionally, I also have expertise with athletes and professionals working on performance improvement and anxiety reduction.

Sessions are provided in a supportive and compassionate space where you can explore your concerns and work toward positive change. Together, we will focus on setting boundaries, combating burnout, while finding a balanced and fulfilling life that meets your goals. Lark Counseling will guide you in learning effective coping strategies that can be applied to manage stress and enhance your overall well-being. I aim to help you develop skills that improve your self-worth and self-confidence so that you can navigate life’s ups and downs with resilience.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you are visiting the Dallas area and seeking ways to feel grounded and connected, I recommend coming in the Spring. You can enjoy the wonderful outdoor weather at locations such as Katy Trail, White Rock Lake, or the Dallas Arboretum. Spring in Dallas is also known as “Patio Season.” Choose any local restaurant–a favorite of mine is The Garden Cafe–leave your phone in your purse or pocket, and reconnect over a delicious meal and conversation. One of the best ways to enhance your mental health is to engage in real-life, in-person activities without the crutch technology!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Taking the leap into private practice, and opening Lark Counseling would not have been possible without the support of my husband and the encouragement of my family, friends, and colleagues in the mental health field. I credit the insightful instruction and academic challenges provided by my professors at Iowa State University and LeTourneau University that fostered the development of a theoretical approach to counseling that I believe creates safety and trust with each client I have the honor to work with. I am also deeply grateful for the guidance of my supervisors, Dr. Yvonne Castillo and Dr. Lindsay Ballinger, who were instrumental in developing my clinical skills.
