We had the good fortune of connecting with Tim Crispin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tim, what principle do you value most?
The quality I value and respect most in people is commitment. Intellect, education, experience, and talent are great attributes, but if a person doesn’t keep their word and becomes undependable, the other skills are overshadowed by doubt. Throughout my career, I’m proud of many different accomplishments, but the reputation I’ve built for simply doing what I say I’m going to do, I think has helped me more than any other characteristic or quality I possess. I would prefer to partner with and hire associates who also place a high value on loyalty, and who take pride in keeping their promises and commitments, verses more talented and experienced individuals who display a hesitation to commit to the team, project, or process.

This is not just true in business, but personally as well. I try to make friends with people who show an investment in their relationships and in their own future. Demonstrating maturity is all about making choices that are in our best interest and long-term happiness rather than choosing the path of least resistance or what feels good at the moment. I look to spend time with people who have a commitment to their own wellbeing and self-improvement. Once we realize we all need improvement, it decreases our desire to point out the flaws in other people.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In addition to operating a music school and live music entertainment company, STAGE VOLUME ENTERTAINMENT, in Midlothian, I have spent over 12 years in the fitness industry. After losing 140lbs and becoming a personal trainer, I began teaching fitness classes and even managed a very successful Gold’s Gym location for 2 years. My passion for health and wellness, and the positive impact fitness has on people’s lives has never been stronger, especially considering the dramatic role obesity has played in exacerbating the struggles patients experience in recovering from Covid-19. Because the pandemic heavily affects the overweight and out of shape population, I feel even more inspired to encourage people to get stronger and healthier. This led to the creation of a new fitness app available on both Google Play and App Store.

Gains and Losses Charity Fitness is the app that sponsors your strength gains and weight loss for charity. I am hoping that connecting users to charities will provide more motivation than just working out for themselves while bringing awareness to some amazing charities that deserve extra help and recognition. I tell people it’s about working out with purpose; not just to better their own personal health, but to strengthen these fantastic charities one rep at a time.

Here’s how it works. Users can raise money for the charity of the month by using our cardio timer. For every hour they log on the app of cardio, which could range from walking outdoors or on the treadmill, riding a bike or doing an elliptical machine, we donate $.50. Users can track their cardio sessions daily and potentially raise up to $15 a month to contribute to our Charity of the Month. Users can attend our official meets and do reps in a variety of exercises. Each rep adds money to fund their selected charity. Also at the meets, we offer the option to weigh-in. For every pound lost from meet to meet, we contribute $1 to their selected charity. At this time, the app is free to download and meets are free to join. The money comes from corporate sponsors and private donors.

We are working to add as many meets to the schedule as possible and we offer the option for gyms, trainers, companies and organizations to host their own meet using our app. Through our partnership with TrajectoryFitness.com we even offer a mobile gym rental that’s perfect for team building events. This is a great opportunity to encourage fitness in the community, meet new potential clients and connect their current members and staff to charitable causes. It’s a fun way to generate some great social media content and have a little friendly competition using our leaderboards while raising funds for great causes.

This is a brand new concept and the app just launched in July. So, our greatest challenge is at this moment is spreading the word. Some are hesitant to compete because they think it may be too challenging or embarrassing to do push ups in front of other people. However, we remind every one it’s for charity and the vibe from the group is always super supportive and positive! Everyone that participates has had a great time and pushed themselves to do more reps than they ever thought possible. Participants feel empowered and realize they are stronger than they thought.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dallas and Fort Worth certainly have an amazing variety of attractions. If it’s their first time to Dallas, I love getting the City Pass and enjoying the Perot Museum, Reunion Tower, The 6th Floor Museum and the Dallas Zoo. I would also include a visit to the Dallas World Aquarium.

I love to be active outdoors. If the weather is nice, my favorite walking and hiking spots are the Cedar Hill State Park, Getzendaner Park in Waxahachie, and White Rock Lake. Of course, if we go to White Rock, we would have to include a tour through the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. If they wanted to relax outside and catch some sun while playing volleyball, horseshoes, cornhole, etc, I might stop by Lloyd Park at Joe Pool Lake. If there is a group of us and we want to stay indoors, I enjoy escape rooms. One of my favorites is The Escape Game Dallas at the Grapevine Mills Mall. Of course, we could spend a bit of time shopping there, too.

For night life activities like watching bands and dancing, we’d visit the Fort Worth Stockyards, Deep Ellum or Bishop Arts District. However, if they enjoy relaxing in a more intimate setting while listening to acoustic music, I would absolutely take them to Cassaro Winery in Ovilla!

My favorite restaurants include Hibachio in either Waxahachie or Midlothian for fast, casual hibachi and sushi. For a mix of Texas favorites, I always enjoy Love and War in Texas located in Plano. For Mexican food, I love Manny’s Uptown. For pasta, I’d take them to Tuscan Slice in Waxahachie.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This interview is dedicated to Attalla Joudeh. I would absolutely not still be in business today without his generosity, mentorship, and friendship. Our friendship developed over the years because he took such an interest in my success, and he has gone out of his way, often at his own expense, to help me keep our business running. He owns our office building and has been quite gracious with the terms of our lease. Beyond that, he has sought to understand our needs and on many occasions assisted at events. I can’t even begin to measure the positive impact his kindness has had on our business. We have traveled together, become consistent workout partners, and spent many occasions with each other’s families.

He has been my partner in the development of the Gains and Losses Charity Fitness app and has helped shape the concept from it’s inception to bring it into reality. He facilitated a meeting with a successful app developer in Dallas and has spent hours reviewing and testing design layouts and features. He participates in our official meets and competitions and has supported me in numerous other ways, even donating equipment.

I am extremely grateful for his contributions to my success and honored to call him my friend.
