Meet LaKatheryn Shaw | Publicity Strategist/Podcast Host/ and Content Curator.

We had the good fortune of connecting with LaKatheryn Shaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaKatheryn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting ShawTIme Media was my invitation to have a seat at the table. My brother and I started a company to use our voice and platform to tell stories that we wanted and the culture needed to see and hear.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Shawtime Media is a small full service public relations & social media boutique. Specializing in digital media ,content development, and branding. What set’s us apart : ShawTime Media is a sibling duo out of Texas that handles everything in house.
What you are most proud of or excited about? I’m most excited about partnering with Prairie View A&M University and working directly with communication interns to prepare them for a career in the business.
How did you get to where you are today business-wise. No shortcuts. Starting your own business while working a full time job takes a lot of time, learning and building. I’m always working and taking advantage of any opportunities that present themselves. This has not been an easy journey but watching my baby (ShawTIme Media) grow from birth to know is an amazing feeling. My podcast is now five years old and to have your voice heard in other countries is an amazing feeling.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
Networking is the greatest lesson that I’ve learned along the way. Everybody that you speak with could be a connecting factor in your journey. Use those resources to grow your business.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story? Check me out my podcast Pull Up where my brother and I chat about sports and all things culture related. Join us for great laughs, new guest and conversations that are outrageous.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents deserve a huge shoutout. ShawTime Media is representation of who we are, a salute to our father and the stories we heard about his collegiate experience. My mother would ask everyday how was school and I would give her a full report. My mom told me at 12 to major in communications, I was a natural born reporter. My brother Cliff Shaw Jr. for going along with my crazy ideas and introducing me to the great Stuart Scott. Watching Stuart Scott on ESPN connect sports and hip hop culture taught me how to be the voice of ShawTime Media.
