We had the good fortune of connecting with La’Brianna Rusk Issa Briii Beat and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi La’Brianna Rusk, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up, I have always had a creative mindset. Whether it was cheerleading, dancing, or simple crafts! I always loved to create! I love to see things progressively turn into something spectacular! Its wildly satisfying to see something you envisioned become a work of art; a masterpiece! It’s the mind behind the brush for me! The Method to the madnesses! The abstract chaos in an artist mind, is what makes their art that much more unique! My journey as a MUA flourished once I step out of my comfort zone, and started doing things I did not think I could possibly do! That’s when I knew God had placed me on the right path. From there, starting in 2019 to now, I see how far I could really take my art! Makeup then became my outlet! It has become something therapeutic for me! Honestly, I have never been more of myself since taking my art seriously!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey to becoming a MUA has been eye opening! I have learned so much about myself! Without me knowing, I have reconstructed my whole thought process on what “beauty” truly is. Beauty is not a skin color, a body type, nor is it material! Beauty is the purest form of oneself! Makeup just enhances what you already have! It adds on to your character. In my case, it helped me find mine!

I started doing my makeup in 2016. Then, I was not taking makeup seriously! During that year, I was going through self-discovery! I had just quit dancing, and before makeup, I believed that dance was going to be my career! Today, I now realize I was in a form of depression! I did not know what to do from there. I did not know exactly who La’Brianna was. One day, I woke up and decided at least one day a week I will do my makeup and make myself look my absolute best! From then on, every FridayI would do my makeup! I did bible devotionals every morning, and afterwards I would tell myself “Issa briii beat Friday, no one can take your shine on a Bri beat Friday sis!” That’s how I came up with my brands name! My confidence flourished by the end of the year! I learned the value of self worth in 2016!

After a while, people started to notice the trend every Friday and wanted me to start doing makeup tutorials, and transformation videos! Even then, it took me 2 years to actually see that I am actually pretty good with handling a brush!

2019 going into 2020, That is when we were faced with the pandemic COVID-19. I had no choice but to see how far can I expand my art! I played around with colors, and different foundation routines until I figured out what works for me! I added to my weekly content! Instead of just Issa Briii beat Friday, I added recreation Wednesdays! I had friends on social media send me looks they would like to see me attempt. We would vote on which look to create for that week. I pushed myself further and further out the box! When I did so, I landed my first ambassadorship with a black owned makeup company called Lara Michelle Cosmetics! I was motivated from that point on to make this a career! By the end of 2020, I have already mastered every form of cut crease and glam there is to makeup! I was ready for a new chapter!

2021 is when I seen the emoji challenge trending on TikTok, I knew I had to try it! That is when I purchased my first set of contacts and my first paint palette! For the life of me, I could not get those contacts in and out without it taking hours! It was frustrating at first, but I can never quit when my mind is set on something! When I did the emoji challenge, I shocked myself at how good it came out! Doing the face and body art was more than thrilling for me! It was the turning point of my makeup career! That very same year, I did 31 days of Halloween, and blew up that same month! Facebook had just introduced reels! My views were doing numbers, making my most view video 4.3 million! My content and my skills then landed me 2 more ambassadorships! My first verified page with Ruby Kisses Cosmetics and another black owned business K Monae Cosmetics! If this didn’t influence me to work harder, i don’t know what would!

We are now in 2022! So much has been going for me now! Facebook monetized me, and I get paid to do what I love! Now, I have this chance to share my journey in this article! It has been an exciting, and an emotional journey! Many obstacles where sent to break me, but I kept going! Maintaining a full time job, and completing consistent content has had my hands tied these past couple of months! I always say

“I can’t cry about having a lot on my plate when my goal was to eat”

Personally, this was not an easy journey! We can get into a mindset to think that your world is over when one dream fall short, or one goal was not accomplished! I could have completely gave up on life after dance! That world was completely crushed for me! But The scripture Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

That was a small door closed compared to the grand entrance God has walked me through! I want anyone reading this to know it is okay to start over! Start over as many times as you like, JUST DO NOT QUIT! How I pushed myself through was allowing myself to feel every emotion and even allow myself to say “I can’t do it!” Because when I realized I could not do a specific task, I found ways to never say “I can’t” again! Teach yourself new things, and welcome change! You never know how far you can grow if you never allow your seed to be watered! Plant yourself, and let the sun shine on you for a change! You will respect protect, and cherish your new growth in the end!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One thing my friends family and supporters know about me is I love to have me a good time! I love going to Volume Hookah lounge on Fridays! The Djs are everything, and the vibe there is amazing! I love having brunch and dinners! Stir Cafe is a great brunch place! Ocean Prime is a great place to have a late dinner in downtown dallas! I am a MUA so I enjoy art! So I recommend Dallas Museum of Art! Its so much to do in Dallas! My most favorite place is the Rose Room! The drag queen shows there are worth the experience!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Since I have been on this makeup journey, my family and my close friends have been super supportive! I definitely would not have become as popular as I am now without my supporters on social media! Without their support I don’t think I would have pushed myself this hard. Because now, it’s not just about me! It’s about everyone that believes in me! Also, special shout-out to the brands that have supported me on my journey, and has given me the confidence I needed to know I can do this!
