We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Watford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krystal, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was all a dream…(in my Biggie voice). Although Wildly Creative Designs wasn’t born out of reading Word Up! Magazine, it was born from a love and passion for creativity. I always say that there’s this little spark inside of people that, like any living thing needs to be nurtured to grow. That spark grows with each creative thought and action you make. Whether you realize it or not, from that picture you had to draw in Kindergarten to your college entrance essay, you fed your spark. Mine was just greedy. I went from using all 62 colors on my fresh white keds my mom bought, to cutting up my jeans and using them as a blank canvas for neon acrylics. Now, with all this technology and machinery at my disposal…that spark is bigger than me….and she’s unstoppable.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So, my business started out as a creative expression of whatever the customer wanted. Somewhere along the way, that got lost. I had such a high demand for an exact replica of a shirt or something very specific and to the point, that I didn’t enjoy it anymore. During the quarantine, I got the chance to get back to the original me. I began to get more into business branding and creating logos for businesses that needed an upgrade. I love to create something new and fresh. I set my self apart by offering customized promo packages so the can see their new logos on some merchandise that they may offer to their customers.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My besties Talaya and Kenetha are foodies like me. They still live in New Jersey, so after the world opens back up, a week long trip is highly likely, lol. My work family and I are always on the hunt for somewhere new to eat and hangout also. We love places like The Dirty Burger Bar, Son of a Butcher, The Breakfast Brothers, Pangea, Blacksmoke BBQ, Texas de Brazil and for our love of seafood, Krab Kingz. I would love to take my friends around for drinks at my favorite bar, Shoals or Xoxo Lounge after walking around Deep Ellum taking the required obsurd amount of “bestie selfies”. Thrifting at all my little hidden secrets and taking them downtown at night to see that beautifully lit Dallas skyline.
The diversity for me is incredible. In my 8 years here, I’ve met people from all over the US and different countries, from all walks of life. It made me fall in love with Dallas.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are an enormous amount of people to whom I could credit my success to but mainly, I’d like to send a special Shoutout and all my love to my Soulmate, my silent partner and the love of my life, Ronnie Watford. He encourages me to take risks and chances and to put myself out there. This man not only funded my dream, but pushed me to make it become a reality. He stays up late nights, runs errands, picks up and drops off orders, all the behind the scenes work is all him, he’s the muscle and the backbone of WCD.
