We had the good fortune of connecting with Kingsley Adeyemi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kingsley, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor of success in the music industry is the strength of your brand.
As a freelance engineer, your brand is everything. It’s the main reason clients keep coming back to you for work & how you build long lasting relationships in this industry. You have to bring value to artists that they can find in any other engineer in this industry. Provided I started out as a producer first, I mold & sculpt songs as artists describe to me the end goal of the project. The value of my input is the importance at the end of the day.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is I’m truly about what’s best for the project. No matter the client, the approach is always what’s best for the artist/project.
The most overcoming challenge for me was stepping out on faith & being in more uncomfortable situations to test my skills in different scenarios. Being comfortable isn’t always best in this industry & the most successful engineers are those who adapt to get the job done, no questions asked.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Good thing Houston has a variety of everything. Not sure if anyone is familiar with Cidercade (a bar with 100+ arcade games, all free!!), Main Event, def would take them to The Collective (Barron Studios sister studio with more of an open concept space), etc.
Really depends on the person, most people I know can be surprised by anything, but that’s the beauty of the city, options!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
S/O Barron Studios. Working for them for almost 6 years made me hungrier after showing me the professional keys to survive as a technical creative in the music industry. They provided plenty of experience for me & helped me reach new confidence levels in my skills as an engineer.
