We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimesha Coleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimesha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business as a life coach was inspired by a combination of life experiences. I wanted more control of my life. At that time I realized my means of survival were in the hands of someone else. I had just been laid off from my job, had no savings, and had a deep passion for helping other women. It was at that moment I declared never to be broke again.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a self-esteem coach who specializes in working with women survivors of abuse. I create coaching programs to help boost confidence, promote a positive self-image, heal and let go of painful life experiences that block future successes in relationships, career, and business endeavors. As a person who once struggled with low self-worth, low self-esteem, social awkwardness, and lacked boundaries, I use myself as the prototype to design and test my services and products. This is the one thing that set me apart, I’m living proof that my coaching programs work. After abuse, the hardest thing is believing you are worthy and feeling good about your success. I’ve seen women from 15 to 65 struggle with their self-esteem and their current life is the manifestation of it. I care about people. As a coach, you have to learn to let go. I think this is one of my biggest challenges. I attach very easily and want to help everyone but in the end if this person doesn’t want to become the best version of themselves I have no other choice. It’s not easy running your own business. It’s a lot of long works, research, development, testing, networking, and business processes that give you a lot of reasons to give up. For me, I have to continuously remind myself of the women out there who really want and need my services. My story, my passion, and my why push me through those withering times. So I keep going.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Monday we’d hang out at the Strike + Reel and enjoy a few rounds of bowling and cheese quesadillas. Tuesday chill with queso/chips and Baja shrimp tacos from Torchy’s Tacos at the Rooftop Drive-in Cinema and watch Jurassic Park. Wednesday we’d head downtown to the Dallas Civil RightsMusuem followed by a nice dinner at the Stirr. Thursday lunch at the TRUE Kitchen & Kocktails, fried cauliflower for starters followed by the TRUE vegan bowl with shrimp and wash it down with a S’more Please. Friday hang out at Six Flags during the day, Extreme Pizza for dinner and end with entertainment at the Texas Live in Arlington. Saturday shopping at Grapevine Mills, facials at Facelogic, and top it off with dancing at Vinetti’s nightclub. Sunday brunch at Bread Winners with shrimp linguini and pineapple upside-down Mimosa.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give recognition to Concord Church. I starting mentoring young unwed mothers and discovered my life purpose through this ministry. Big shoutout to my first business coach, Gordon Edwards over at the Dallas Metropolitan SBDC. Gordon recommended I write a book telling my story. I published my first book in 2015, “He Loves Me Not: Buried Tears of Betrayed Love”. This book won the 2017 Indie Author Legacy Award for Social Awareness. Can’t forget my first paid coach, Shawn Dorrough who helped me with my business systems and introduced me to several podcast hosts (Sherly Jones, Markeith Braden, and Wanda McKinley) jumpstarting my business branding.
