We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Wallace and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I set out to start my own salon, it was a natural progression in my career—one that felt both exciting and necessary. After 9 years as a salon manager and 15 years in the industry, I had experienced the highs and lows of the industry, learning valuable lessons about business ownership while often feeling limited in my decision-making.
I’ve always been passionate about fostering growth in others, creating a positive and supportive environment where creativity can flourish. With each challenge I faced, it became clear that I wanted to create a space where both clients and stylists could thrive.
Guided by faith, I took the leap into entrepreneurship, trusting that the right opportunities would unfold. As doors opened, I felt a sense of purpose: to build a salon that embodies positivity, creativity, and community. This journey has been about more than just business; it’s about empowering others and making a meaningful impact in their lives.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is not just about hairstyling; it’s about creating transformative experiences for my clients and fostering a community of creativity and support. What sets me apart is my dedication to continuous learning and growth, both for myself and for those I mentor. I believe that every haircut and color can tell a story, and I strive to ensure that each client leaves feeling empowered and confident.
Getting to where I am today required a lot of hard work and determination. As an introvert in an extroverted industry, I had to push myself out of my comfort zone and actively seek out opportunities to grow my business. There were times when I felt like I was begging for business, but those moments taught me resilience and the importance of building genuine connections.
Once I started to establish my clientele, I realized the importance of giving back. I began training others in our craft, which not only enriched my salon but also helped me step into more leadership roles. Reflecting on my journey, I see that every challenge I faced had a purpose, shaping me into the leader I am today.
I want future generations to know that they can achieve even more than I did. My story is one of perseverance, passion, and the belief that we can always uplift one another. I hope to inspire others to embrace their own journeys, knowing they have the power to forge their paths and make a lasting impact in our industry.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to take a moment to recognize someone who has been instrumental in my journey: my Aunt, Jauna French. As me previous salon owner, she has been a guiding light, continually putting her faith in me and encouraging my growth.
Jauna pushed me beyond my comfort zone, challenging me to embrace a business mindset while allowing me to immerse myself in every aspect of salon operations. Her loyalty and fierce support have been invaluable; she would do anything to ensure I had the resources and encouragement I needed to succeed.
Her belief in me has not only shaped my professional path but has also inspired me to create a nurturing environment for others. I am truly grateful for her unwavering support and the impact she has had on my life and career.
