We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Magouirk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We started this business because we want to help women experiencing hair loss. When your hair starts thinning the options can feel overwhelming. Women are spending hundreds, if not thousands, on supplements that most of the time aren’t going to provide the desired result. We want to provide a safe, caring atmosphere that offers compassion first, and practical solutions next.

Women struggling with hair loss are experiencing more than insecurity. They feel alone and isolated. They’re ashamed, wondering what they did to cause this problem and constantly strategizing on how to fix it. They begin to withdraw from life, avoiding events that could expose their hair loss, saying no to things that once brought them joy, thus bringing further isolation and loneliness. The cycle is vicious.

We believe helping women, especially the mom who doesn’t want to engage with social events, the grandmother who doesn’t want to be in photos, or the 30 year old who is scared to go to the interview, is what we were meant to do. We want to empower women to show up fully in their lives without fear or anxiety. We are offering more than hair replacement options, we are offering hope and confidence.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I didn’t go to cosmetology school because I wanted to be a hairdresser. I actually didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I was lost and wandering around, but hair school seemed like a good enough route to start down.

Even though hair school wasn’t exactly my first choice, I know it is exactly where I am supposed to be. As someone who has struggled with self worth and deep insecurity, I have had to fight to find my worth from within. It’s no coincidence that I am in the beauty business as someone calling out my clients worth from the inside while helping them feel better on the outside.

There are so many great stylists and salons out there. but what sets me apart, is at the end of the day, I care more about your heart than your hair. I am vulnerable and kind, which creates a space for my clients to relax and be themselves. I partner with my clients to problem solve issues and create the best possible outcome. I have always said “Clients will forget how you did their hair but they will never forget how you made them feel.”

I do strive for excellence in my craft, but as I encourage my clients to be kind to themselves, I am practicing the same thing. As someone who is a recovering perfectionist, I am now able to refine my art and expand on my skill with joy because I know deep within, I am enough.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite spots in the city have to start with exercise. I love group fitness and the community it creates. I also feel that exercise is the best way to get your mind right. I love yoga, cycle, and weight lifting. Cyclebar is a fav, and so it zenextreme.

Favorite food places have to be Cava, Firebirds, and Lupe Tortilla. I am near alliance town center area and there are endless options for yummy food.

I would also make sure (weather permitting of course) that we made it out to fort worth nature center and refuge. It’s one of my favorite spots to hike. It’s beautiful and quiet, and it has restrooms! (always a must)

Since I prefer to be home early I’d snag my favorite dessert from del frisco grille, the coconut cream pie, head home for a movie, dessert, and relaxing time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My first shoutout goes to my loyal clients who have become family, constantly offering support and encouragement. Thank you for trusting me over the years with not only your hair, but the stories of your life. You have shared joy, sorrow, growth, and change with me and I will cherish you forever.

My second shoutout goes to my amazing business partner and co-owner of Erin Kelly Salons, Chelsea Seaton. You have challenged me over the years to be my very best self and you have championed me along the way. Joining with me in this business has be incredible. You have brought so much joy to everyone who has gotten to visit with you and have created a safe, caring space for our clients to be themselves. You are a visionary and without you, the dreams of a salon would have stayed wrapped up in my head. You are inspiring to not only me, but everyone who knows you.
