We had the good fortune of connecting with Kamilah Hasan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kamilah, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“You are a work of art” is my favorite affirmation. As a creative, I can struggle with balancing time for personal creative pursuits and professional or work-related projects. These two areas often blend together as mindfulness techniques, such as meditation and journaling, allow me to dive into my artistic side through developing scripts and journal prompts. I make note of this affirmation every day as it reminds me that the time I spend creating my business and personal development IS art. I’m not separate from the practice but a part of it. This affirmation brought me a sense of peace and balance which allowed me to honor the time I spent working and the time spent creating.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I founded the Kamilah Rose Bliss Institute (TBI) to house my many interests in wellness and spirituality. What started as a blog where I shared information on astrology, tarot, and working with the seasons grew into a space to offer services related to spirituality, along with yoga, meditation, and coaching. One of my greatest strengths is my ability to synthesize information and present it in a way that is easily consumable. Thus, combining mindfulness with tarot, astrology, and mythology provides the perfect avenue to utilize this skill. I believe I will always strive to improve and grow my business services, but my authentic interest in providing multiple modalities for stress management and empowering individuals with tools to stress prevention tools has been the key to building my business. There are many challenges I have experienced, as I am sure all entrepreneurs have. One of which has been branding and marketing. I have never been an aggressive salesperson. It has been a journey to find marketing techniques that align with the TBI mission and vision without overstepping my personal values related to sales. To overcome this, I use the techniques I share with my clients to tap into your talents identified through astrology and shadow work. Astrology provides a framework while shadow work goes within to uncover which internal barriers complicate my ability to show up confidently in my work. Thus, I utilize deep blue and red colors, post on specific days, and understand that my work is meant to activate. Those who resonate will be drawn to learn more and connect with me for coaching, teaching, or a reading. Those who invite me to work with them are the correct individuals or teams I should work with.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many fun places to visit in DFW! I would tailor the trip to their interests, but I would make sure we spend a little time across the metroplex. In Denton I would have to take them to BeWitched Denton so they could see where I provide in-person readings. Then we would spend the day on the square visiting Graffiti Pasta, Recycled Books, and perhaps stopping for a cocktail at Miss Angeline’s Denton. The next day might be a Dallas day starting early at the Aquarium, with lunch at a food truck in Klyde Warren Park then ending our day at the DMA. If it’s a Tuesday we have to watch the sunset over the Dallas skyline and eat ramen at Kessaku. The next day I would stick a little closer to home and spend the day at Legacy West, perhaps catching a movie at the Angelika with dinner at J. Theodore in Frisco. Their avocado risotto is fantastic. Then to finish their trip we spend a day in Ft. Worth visiting the Botanical Gardens, Stockyards, and the Water Gardens. I would also take them to my favorite spot to sit by the water exhibit at Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus East. Then for drinks on the rooftop at The Sinclair, they have a gorgeous view of the city with tons of seating to sit back and relax after a long day of sightseeing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am without the support of my sister Karimah Hasan and my dearest friends Perla Alvarez, Priscilla Wachira, and Flory Garcia. They have purchased services, networked, marketed, and provided endless encouragement as I transitioned to full-time entrepreneurship. I am forever grateful for them.
