We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Fells and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
I disagree with “Fake it until you make it.” Well, I believe in belief itself. You don’t have to fake an idea to make it; you have to think it’s possible & act on “it” to bring it to life. “Faking it” creates an inferior self-image as if you don’t deserve what it is you’re after. On the contrary, you deserve whatever it is you set your mind to. The power of thought and imagination make a reality “Real,” not the other way around.
Simply put, don’t go faking it. Instead, believe it as if you’ve already achieved it. Then achieve it.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is Tech2Home. Tech2Home is a community-driven platform that connects homeowners and renters to vetted technicians & companies who provide home services.
After nearly a decade of working in customer service & homes, I discovered that I was limiting my impact on society by mastering someone else’s system. I loved my job, the pay was decent enough, & my family had little to no worries, yet I was still unsatisfied. I’ve known for a long time that I wanted to run my own company. Although, I had no clue how that would look.
When I was a teenager, a good friend and I ran a computer repair shop out of my mom’s home. We would take in all types of computers, tear them apart & rebuild them again. It was a good feeling, doing what I loved & being compensated for the value I determined for myself. Simentously, my mother would always have a house project going on. We would lay tile, put up drywall, repair the toilet & sinks, and many other things. Now I realize these things were vital in molding me to use my “mind” (computer repair) with my hands “home repairs.” That combination is the very root of Tech2Home. Tech2Home challenges thought & encourage endless action.
I initially attempted to hire employees when I picked up a sizable clientele. However, I soon realized that instead of molding employees, I’d rather help produce bosses instead. Tech2Home then shifted our vision. I assisted in establishing my former employees into individual entities. They applied for EINs & were able to get insurance. They now had a newly founded purpose & more to look forward to than just a paycheck.
Now, we work together under the umbrella of “Tech2Home” as business to business. And that’s the goal. Tech2Home desires to help people who are gifted & skilled with their hands to become a business. We achieve this by sharing mutual resources, closed networking, building an exciting culture, & giving back to those who put us in a position to challenge our market standards.
During my past ten years, I’ve met many driven people who desired to step out & create something with their skills yet lacked the resources to do so or an environment that encouraged it. Tech2Home is just that.
For homeowners & renters, Tech2Home offers professionally trained & skilled entrepreneurs ready for hire in 3 simple steps. Every company available for hire on the Tech2Home platform abides by Tech2Home’s standards & expectations. In addition, any appointment booked through Tech2Home is backed by “The Tech2Home Way” satisfaction guarantee.
Getting to this point was indeed a journey. Nothing worth achieving is easy. I want to encourage anyone that desires to run a business to keep going. You must keep learning & taking strategic risks. Invest in your goals. Never assume you know it all. Do not dwell on setbacks too long. You are human; you will feel many different emotions. Understand your mind only has so much energy stored at once. Only dispense your fuel on solutions, as a true entrepreneur would.
Many of the things I’ve overcome to this point have come from conditioning my mind to think forward and not backward while removing previous obstacles that hindered progress.
The ultimate vision of Tech2Home is to challenge the standard of the home service industry. Clients spending hard-earned money MUST be communicated with effectively. MUST receive transparency. MUST receive an exceptional service experience. And MUST be left with a feeling of awe & appreciation that someone can come into their home & make it better than before.
Tech2Home – The finest home service experience.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First off, I love all sports. I’m a little spontaneous, which means we may end up at a hockey game or a football game. Maybe even a raceway. I love nature, so I travel to the lakes around the Rockwall area to meditate, reflect on life, or relax with family & friends.
My favorite dish to eat is Pho. I love to travel around the Dallas metro finding all the best pho spots. Pho is a bowl of the most delicious broth and noodles you’ll ever have for those who aren’t familiar. There are pho bars also if alcohol is a preference.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First & foremost, my wonderful wife, precious kids & loving mother deserves the biggest shoutout. Secondly, anyone I’ve ever encountered who poured an ounce of positivity or encouragement into me deserves a shoutout, from my family to my elementary teachers, basketball coach, pastor & congregation, and beyond. Finally, I also would like to shout out those who placed negative & limiting thoughts on me. If not for a bit of adversity & doubt, my light may be less dim. It’s the balance of life that makes us all the better if we choose to.
