We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Allred and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
The police and fire side of my business has a huge impact on the community. The goal in the beginning with OtherRed Photography was to bridge the gap between civilians and first responders. Showing the real life situations first responders experience, and bringing that to the viewers finger tips. Showing the daughter her dad fighting a fire. Showing the mom their son saving someone’s life. Real pictures. It’s about having the photo of that hero in all of their awesomeness. Over the years, the importance to my job has shown it self through loss. I’ve had the hero shot of the firefighter or police officer that lost their life. I’ve been trusted to shoot these very sensitive funerals for the families as well. I want to honor your loved one, and I just want to do it well.

What should our readers know about your business?
In 2015, I was given an opportunity that I was absolutely under qualified for. But I never told anyone. I hear people all the time say, “fake it till you make it, is bad advice.” That was my business plan! I didn’t know anything about photography. The extent of my knowledge with a camera stopped with gopro. So, I told the right people I knew what I was doing, and I snapped away. Learning with every shoot that came my way. I’m still learning! The most important thing I’ve learned on this journey is having the confidence to do your job right. You have to have the confidence in your abilities. You have to be able to adapt. While police and fire pics started OtherRed Photography, it has grown into shooting anything and everything. From your senior shoots, weddings, private parties for high end clients, to events in front of thousands of people for cities all over. My goal is simple. It’s to capture the moment well. To make a moment live for ever. Sometimes all your left with is a picture.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In my free time, I spend it on the lake! I’m very selective on my summer shoots. The lake, friends, drinks, surfing and sunsets!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Jeremy. I won’t mention your last name, because I know you don’t want credit for any of this. OtherRed Photography just isn’t as successful without this guy. He gave me some trust in 2015, and we never looked back. It just blew up from there. From working with one department to multiple departments over North Texas. The places a camera will take you is pretty wild. I’m very grateful for the opportunities that came my way, and the people that threw my name out there. I hope I’ve made you all proud!
