We had the good fortune of connecting with Jewel Georges and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jewel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting Natural Jewels, was to create a body, skincare and home product line that offers clean, natural sustainable products and services with a specific focus to people of color.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently the owner, curator and master esthetician of Natural Jewels!
5 years ago I resigned for the New York City Transit Authority after being there for 12 years. I decided I wanted to pursue my own business ventures.
I came to visit a close friend and fell in love with Texas. At the time my youngest children were entering middle school and we needed a great school district and I needed a state where a small business could thrive. With the help and encouragement of a very special person I was able to make a seamless transition.
By no means was it an easy choice. But, nonetheless it took three weeks to rent my NY home, pack my house and car and head to Texas!
Along the way, I consider several times to pack up and go back to comfort. But, I continued to plant seeds in town were I knew ONE person. Eventually with a lot of prayer, blood, sweat and TEARS…. wonderful relationships have been created through the process and those seeds are blossoming and flourishing.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The most fun and interesting places to check on in my opinion would have to be Legacy West, Deep Ellum, The Dallas Farmers Market, The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, Reunion Tower and last but not least The Self Care Cafe (Natural Jewels Day Spa)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shout-out to the family members I’ve lost to cancer and my family members that are battling cancer right now. Natural Jewels was started because of all the cancer in my family. I knew I needed to create products and offer services that support a healthy skin care regimen free of caustic materials. So, my family is my driving motivation.
